Khutbah Jumat merupakan perkataan yang disampaikan kepada sejumlah orang secara berkesinambungan, berupa nasihat dengan bahasa Arab, sesaat sebelum shalat Jumat setelah masuk waktunya, disertai niat serta diucapkan secara keras, dilakukan dengan berdiri jika mampu, sehingga tercapai tujuannya. Karenanya, rukun, syarat dan segala ketentuannya harus terpenuhi agar pelaksanaan Jumat sah.
Khotbah Jumat dilakukan dua kali, di antara khutbah pertama dan kedua dipisah dengan duduk.
Khotbah Jumat memiliki lima rukun yang harus dipenuhi. Membaca hamdalah, shalawat Nabi dan wasiat bertakwa di kedua khutbah, membaca ayat suci al-Quran, serta membaca doa kedua untuk umat Islam
