De Taskforce BID is op 13 februari 2013 ingesteld door minister Ronald Plasterk van Binnenlandse Zaken en Koninkrijksrelaties om informatiebewustzijn bij de overheid te vergroten en meer informatieveiligheid binnen overheidsorganisaties te realiseren.Begin 2015 heeft de Taksforce haar werkzaamheden beëindigd, maar het belang van informatieveiligheid stopt natuurlijk niet. Het ministerie van Binnenlandse Zaken en de koepelorganisaties nemen met het ondersteuningsprogramma iBewustzijn Overheid het stokje van de Taskforce over. Bewustwording en het stimuleren van de dialoog op het gebied van informatieveiligheid worden gezien als belangrijke taken, zowel op het niveau van bestuurders, topmanagers als medewerkers.
