WHAT IS A COPD FLARE-UP or EXACERBATION?
We say you are having a COPD exacerbation when your COPD symptoms flare up. Such a flare-up causes your breathing to be worse than usual, often in association with worse cough, increased sputum production and/or cold symptoms.
COPD exacerbations can be dangerous if left untreated. Therefore, depending on your symptoms, it is important that as soon as you identify them you contact your doctor or go to the emergency room, so that you can be evaluated and treated.

The Smart COPD App has been developed by a team of experienced pulmonologists and data scientists. We have looked at thousands of possible combinations of patient characteristics, comorbidities and symptoms, and applied machine learning technology to develop predictive algorithms.
WHAT DOES SMART COPD DO?
The Smart COPD App provides an assessment based upon the information you have reported. The App may suggest you call your doctor, may suggest you seek immediate care or may suggest you do not need medical help right now.
However, if you feel like your symptoms are an emergency, you should always call 911 and notify your doctor immediately.
The Smart COPD App does not provide a diagnosis and does not provide medication recommendations. The App does not request or store any personally identifiable information.
