Description
星洲日報創刊於1929年，經歷過英國殖民地時代、抗日時期、獨立運動，直至建國之後的今天。《星洲日報》曾二度停刊，第一次是在1942至1945年，因日軍南侵，馬、新兩地相繼淪陷而被迫停刊；第二次是1987年遭馬來西亞政府援引出版和印刷法令吊銷出版准證。1988年4月8日，在現任社長丹斯里張曉卿爵士及高層的努力爭取之下，《星洲日報》得以復刊。
復刊後，發行量節節上升，今已達40萬份，每天有超過140萬的馬來西亞人閱讀《星洲日報》，使《星洲日報》不僅成為東南亞發行量最高的華文報章，也是中港台以外最大的華文日報。
2004年10月，《星洲日報》連同《光明日報》、《星洲網》及其它3份教育週刊《學海》、《星星》及《小星星》正式組成星洲媒體集團，並在吉隆坡證券交易所主要交易板上市。
2007年1月29日，星洲媒體集團和香港明報集團宣布合併，並邀請南洋報業參與。在合併計劃下，星洲媒體將倒置收購明報企業，實現走向全球的計劃。明報企業將取代星洲媒體在大馬股票交易所主要交易板的上市地位，成為第一家在大馬與香港雙邊上市的公司。
2008年1月，星洲媒體、南洋報業以及明報企業分別舉行股東特大。三個特大都以近100%的票數通過合併計劃。
新集團取名“世華媒體”，旗下中文日報包括《明報》、《星洲日報》、《光明日報》、《南洋商報》、《中國報》，以及《亞洲週刊》、《亞洲眼》等30多家雜誌。其中，《明報》在北美發行四個地方版本，分別是多倫多版、溫哥華版、紐約版與三藩市版，外加張曉卿旗下公司出版的《柬埔寨星洲日報》、《印尼星洲日報》與巴布亞新幾內亞英文報《The National》，業務版圖分佈得極廣。
