Ibnu Katsir meyebutkan didalam tafsirnya bahwa sebagian ulama mengatakan, ”Diantara kekhususan surat ini adalah tidaklah seseorang membaca surat ini dalam keadaan sulit kecuali Allah akan memberikan kemudahan kepadanya. Dan sepertihalnya ketika surat ini dibacakan terhadap orang yang menjelang kematiannya maka akan turun kepadanya rahmat dan keberkahan dan untuk memberikan kemudahan keluarnya ruh dari jasadnya.”Imam Ahmad mengatakan bahwa telah bercerita kepada kami Abdul Mughirah, ”Telah bercerita kepada kami Shafwan berkata bahwa para syeikh telah mengatakan,”Apabila dibacakan—surat yasin—terhadap orang yang menjelang kematian maka akan diringankan bebannya. Hadits-hadits lain tentang keutamaan surat yasin seperti sabda Rasulullah saw, ”Barangsiapa yang membaca yasin maka Allah akan tuliskan pembacaannya itu sama dengan membaca al qur’an sepuluh kali selain yasin.” Imam Tirmidzi mengatakan bahwa hadits ini gharib yaitu diriwayatkan hanya oleh satu orang saja.
