Kitab ini dikarang oleh dua orang Imam yang agung, yakni halamanuddin al-Mahalli dan halamanuddin al-Suyuthi. halamanuddin al-Mahalli bernama lengkap Muhammad bin Ahmad bin Muhammad bin Ibrahim bin Ahmad al-Imam al-Allamah halamanuddin al-Mahalli. Lahir pada tahun 791 H/1389 M di Kairo, Mesir. Ia lebih dikenal dengan sebutan al-Mahalli yang dinisbahkan pada kampung kelahirannya. Lokasinya terletak di sebelah barat Kairo, tak jauh dari sungai Nil.
Sejak kecil tanda-tanda kecerdasan sudah mencorong pada diri Mahalli. Ia ulet menyadap aneka ilmu, misalnya tafsir, ushul fikih, teologi, fikih, nahwu dan logika. Mayoritas ilmu tersebut dipelajarinya secara otodidak, hanya sebagian kecil yang diserap dari ulama-ulama salaf pada masanya, seperti al-Badri Muhammad bin al-Aqsari, Burhan al-Baijuri, A'la al-Bukhari dan Syamsuddin bin al-Bisati. Al-Mahalli wafat pada awal tahun 864 H bertepatan dengan tahun 1455 M.
Sedangkan al-Suyuthi bernama lengkap Abu al-fadhl Abdurrahman bin Abi Bakr bin Muhammad al-Suyuthi al-Syafi'i. Beliau dilahirkan pada bulan Rajab tahun 849 H dan ayahnya meninggal saat beliau berusia lima tahun tujuh bulan. Beliau sudah hafal al-Qur'an di luar kepala pada usia delapan tahun dan mampu menghafal banyak hadis. Beliau juga mempunyai guru yang sangat banyak. Di mana menurut perhitungan muridnya, al-Dawudi, mencapai 51 orang. Demikian juga karangan beliau yang mencapai 500 karangan. Beliau meninggal pada malam Jum'at 19 Jumadil Awal 911 H di rumahnya.
