FLORA INCOGNITA - DISCOVER THE DIVERSITY OF NATUREWhat's blooming? With the Flora Incognita app, this question is quickly answered. Take a picture of a plant, find out what it's called and learn everything you want to know with the help of a fact sheet. Highly precise algorithms based on artificial intelligence identify wild plants even when they are not (yet) in bloom!
In the Flora Incognita app you can easily view all your collected plant finds in a observation list. Maps show where you have found your plants. This way you can see how your knowledge about wild plants is growing.
But Flora Incognita is even more! The app is free of charge and without advertising, because it is part of a scientific research project that aims to improve nature conservation. The collected observations are used to answer scientific research questions that deal, for example, with the spread of invasive species or the effects of climate change on biotopes.
In regular stories, you will learn about news from the project, get insights into the scientific work or will be made curious about what is happening in nature right now.

HOW GOOD IS FLORA INCOGNITA?
Species identification with Flora Incognita is based on Deep Learning algorithms that have an accuracy of well over 90%. It is important to take sharp and as close as possible pictures of plant parts such as flower, leaf, bark or fruit for a high identification accuracy.

WHO DEVELOPED FLORA INCOGNITA?
The Flora Incognita app is developed by scientists from the Technical University of Ilmenau and the Max Planck Institute for Biogeochemistry Jena. Its development was supported by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research, the German Federal Agency for Nature Conservation with funds from the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety as well as the Thuringian Ministry for the Environment, Energy and Nature Conservation and the Foundation for Nature Conservation Thuringia. The project was awarded as an official project of the "UN Decade of Biodiversity" and won the Thuringian Research Award in 2020.

5 ★A nice idea, great for learning more about the surrounding plant life. Plus it supports importing photos meaning observations can be added later on, so no need to worry about mobile connection while out and about.
5 ★I've just taken Flora Incognita for a quick test drive to see how accurate it's identification is across plant families and I must say as a professional Garden Designer and Landscaper I'm very impressed! Initial test in garden, excellent! Second test along country lanes and woodland was also excellent! So far the app has been able to accurately recognise 70 species and I know this because of my plant knowledge. Only one annoying issue: persistent location notification even after turning off?😊
5 ★Since I have no stability issues anymore, I am completely addicted to it. No struggling anymore with books, but an instant result. Marvellous. Just a suggestion, can you build in shortcuts, e.g. directly to "flower"? And I found one bug: you can only edit the name of a plant once, after that the editing does not work.

5 ★Nice app, the identification of different plants is pretty accurate, there is a detailed description of all species. The application itself is practical and easy to use. It would be pretty good if there was bryophyta identifying app like this one.
5 ★Best plant identification app I've found. Well done. In the flower section, I wish taking a photo of the flower wasn't the 1st image to be taken. Most plants only have flowers for a short time, but they always have leaves.
3 ★I tested 7 plant ID apps in June 2020. PictureThis and LeafSnap both did very well, winning by a wide margin. 1. PictureThis allows 1 use/day unless you pay $20/year. I paid them. 2. LeafSnap has 5-sec. ads until you pay $?/year. 3. Plantnet did okay. Like LeafSnap it offers other possibilities after its top prediction. 4-7. Seek, Planet Snap, Flora Incognita, and Plant Lens did poorly. Flora Incognita demands that you take a set of photos of various specific plant parts! Blech.
4 ★It's nice to not have a limit in how many plants you can identify and I've found it very accurate. It would be nice to be able to identify something by a photo already taken, so having the option to upload rather than take a photo on the spot. Thank you for the work you're doing with this.
5 ★Excellent, easy, fun - it's given me so much knowledge already in just a few weeks here on the Isle of Wight (off the South coast of England). Thank you with all my heart to ALL the people who created this Excellent Brilliant app. I especially like finding out if I can use what most people call a weed, to eat or to dye fabric. I am also thrilled to discover the names of tiny plants that I've loved for years - at last I can know what they are, at last they have a name and an identity!
5 ★13 or of 17 plants identified on the first try. 2 of the others were still ambiguous after trying all the options. I recommend this to anyone wanting to get a good idea of what they're looking at. it's easy and fast! I look forward to using the expert advice option at some point.
4 ★It's pretty accurate in identifying plants, shrubs, and trees. Would like to be able to delete "Unknown Species" from My Observations, since I know there are none in my yard and its probably just a bad photo.
5 ★I love having a resource for identifying native plants I don't know. I'm getting about 75% of my observations correctly identified. That is excellent and will only get better with time. This is a wonderful tool for a native plant lover.
