فتحت الأندلس تحت قيادة القائد العسكري طارق بن زياد، ففي عام 711 ميلادي الموافق 92 هجري توجه الجيش الإسلامي لمضيق طارق، وهاجم جيش الملك رودريك وانتصر المسلمون في ما يعرف بمعركة لكة.استمر تقدم الجيش الإسلامي تحت راية طارق بن زياد محققاً انتصارات متتالية على الأراضي الإسبانية، مؤسساً بما يعرف بالأندلس، وقد استمر الفتح لعام 262 ميلادي الموافق 107 هجري، وقد امتد التواجد الإسلامي ل800 سنة تقريباً.
