Dalam kitab Ta'limul Muta'allim ini banyak sekali pelajaran yang dapat diambil oleh sang pelajar ataupun pengajar, dari mulai cara belajar sampai patner belajar.Menurut Syekh al-Zarnuji pengarang kitab Taklim Muta'alim belajar adalah berniat mencari ridha Allah, sebagai mana dijelaskan dalam kitabnya "Seseorang yang menuntut ilmu harus bertujuan mengharap rida Allah, mencari kebahagiaan di akhirat, menghilangkan kebodohan baik dari dirinya sendiri maupun dari orang lain, menghidupkan agama, dan melestarikan Islam. Karena Islam itu dapat lestari, kalau pemeluknya berilmu.
Kitab Ta’limul Muta’alim .Yang terdiri dari tiga belas pasal.
Pertama, menerangkan hakekat ilmu, hukum mencari ilmu, dan keutamaannya.
Kedua, niat dalam mencari ilmu.
Ketiga, cara memilih ilmu, guru, teman, dan ketekunan.
Keempat, cara menghormati ilmu dan guru
Kelima, kesungguhan dalam mencari ilmu, beristiqamah dan cita-cita yang luhur.
Keenam, ukuran dan urutannya
Ketujuh, tawakal
Kedelapan, waktu belajar ilmu
Kesembilan, saling mengasihi dan saling menasehati
Kesepuluh, mencari tambahan ilmu pengetahuan
Kesebelas, bersikap wara’ ketika menuntut ilmu
Kedua belas, hal-hal yang dapat menguatkan hapalan dan yang melemahkannya.
Ketiga belas, hal-hal yang mempermudah datangnya rijki, hal-hal yang dapat memperpanjang, dan mengurangi umur.
