Imam Abu Dawud
Nama lengkapnya adalah Abu Dawud Sulaiman bin Al-Asy’ab bi Syaddad bin Amr bin Amir. Abu Dawud lahir pada 202 Hijriyah dan wafat pada 275 Hijriyah. Kitabnya yang terkenal di bidang hadits adalah “Sunan Abu Dawud”. Abu Dawud sudah belajar ilmu pengetahuan sejak masih kecil. Pada saat sekitar berumur 18 tahun, Abu Dawud mulai mencurahkan perhatiannya padda ilmu-ilmu hadits. Untuk keperluan itu, Abu Dawud melakukan berbagai kunjungan ke berbagai negeri untuk mendapatkan hadits-hadits yang berkualitas. Di antara negeri atau kota yang dikunjungi Abu Dawud adalah: Sijistan, Irak, Kufah, Bashrah, Jazirah (wilayah Harran, Irak), Syam (Suriah), Hijaz (Makkah dan Madinah), Khurasan dan Ray (keduanya di wilayah Iran). Seperti layaknya muhadditsin (ulama hadits), Abu Dawud juga berguru ke beberapat tokoh, di antaranya: Sulaiman bin Harb, Al-Qa’nabi, Muslim bin Ibrahim, dan lainnya.
