Description
PlayMaetion is designed to assist Scottish Country Dance teachers with managing their prerecorded music.The two primary problems it addresses are:
1) Carrying around a lot of CDs
2) Finding the right music to go with your situation
The problems with CDs are:
* compared to flash drives they are large and bulky
* they are mechanical and not always readable on all players
* information about the music is hard to search and compare
We assume you will address this problem by storing all your music on iTunes and then copy your iTunes directory onto a USB flash drive.
Finding the "right music for your situation" means matching the style of the dance (Jig, Reel, etc), the number of repetitions, and where possible, match the devisor recommended music. We have created a database of Scottish Country Dance music (SCD_DB) that tracks this information for all the CDs in our library. At last count this was more than 3400 entries.
PlayMaetion is an application that merges the contents from the SCD_DB and your iTunes library and presents a manageable spreadsheet of information. It requires that you use a tablet sized screen. I have been testing with displays as small as 7".
PlayMaetion also includes a music player with some special features for dance teachers:
1) delayed start so you can join the dance set
2) speed adjustment to slow down some music
3) position queuing so you can start the music at a pre-specified location.
The SCD_DB is currently administered by a group of teachers in the NW United States. We do not consider it proprietary but clearly it needs to be collectively managed. We leave this issue open for some future users group.
The application is free to download and there are no adds. There is a User Guide built in.

Now looks for iTunes directory on SD cards.
This is probably a better way to contain your music.
- easy to update from your PC (assume it supports SD cards)
- need to be careful with wear on USB port connection (we have noticed problems)
