Description
Coral Park Elementary's entire instructional staff is embracing the Common Core Standards. Guided by our reading specialist, Mrs. Scalia, our entire instructional staff has actively participated in continuous professional development to gain a greater understanding of these standards. Mrs. Scalia was selected by the District to serve on a cadre of common core experts, a select group of coaches that is "shaping" the direction of the common core initiative.As we continue "Shaping Our Future", we will be transforming our media center and computer room, into Coral Park's STEM lab. Project based learning activities will be supported through this Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math resource area. Our phenomenal PTA has made a generous donation of $15,000 to support our STEM lab needs as well as to continue purchasing Promethean boards for our classrooms. Ms. Maini will be our STEM Special Teacher and will be facilitating the development of our STEM lab. She is also a math trainer for the district and will be training not only Coral Park teachers, but many other district teachers in the new math series and common core math strategies.
