El Instituto de Investigaciones de la Amazonia Peruana (IIAP), viene desarrollando, diversos proyectos de carácter educativo, con el objetivo de enseñar a las nuevas generaciones a valorar y conservar nuestra diversidad biológica. De esta manera se garantiza preservar nuestra Amazonía, mediante el aprendizaje y la difusión de los denominados saberes locales.De tal manera que nace la iniciativa de desarrollar una aplicación móvil para celulares y tabletas, donde se encuentre toda esta información, la aplicación denominada: “Yahuiri” (yuca en la lengua cocama), tiene como objetivo principal, difundir los diferentes platillos elaborados con la yuca(n.c: Manihot esculenta), mostrando los ingredientes a utilizar además de la preparación de los mismos.
Yahuiri cuenta con un interfaz amigable para el usuario y fácil de usar; teniendo fácil acceso a la lista de recetas, variedades de yuca, ademas de datos curiosos que nos detallan los diversos usos que se le dan a la yuca además del consumo humano.
Como parte del proyecto, se realizó la recopilación de información sobre los distintos platillos elaborados con la Yuca. El ámbito de acción, comprendió seis comunidades ribereñas de la cuenca baja del río Ucayali (provincia de Requena); involucrando a 69 familias campesinas.
