Jacob Ludwig Carl Grimm si Wilhelm Carl Grimm (Jacob si Wilhelm Grimm sau simplu - Fratii Grimm) s-au nascut pe 4 ianuarie 1785, respectiv 24 februarie 1786 în orasul Hanau situat în apropiere de Frankfurt, Germania. Fratii Grimm au fost folcloristi, lingvisti, filologi, doctori în drept si sunt cunoscuti în toata lumea mai ales pentru colectia de basme publicata în doua volume (primul volum a aparut în 1812, iar al doilea volum în 1814) si întitulata "Povesti pentru copii si familie". Fratii Grimm si-au adus contributia la formarea limbii germane, în special prin publicarea dictionarului "Cartea cu cuvinte germane" pe care l-au scris împreuna si prin editarea primei carti de fonetica/fonologie a limbii germane "Legea lui Grimm", scrisa doar de Jacob.
