Description

Alpus is a viewer application for dictionaries in StarDict, DSL, XDXF, Dictd, and TSV/Plain formats ¹.

Features:

• Fast and fully offline operation
• Searches ignoring case, diacritics, and punctuation
• Wildcard search
• Fuzzy search
• Full-text search
• In-page popup translator
• History and bookmarks
• Customization options

Compatibility:

Alpus is compatible with the following dictionary/file types:

• StarDict dictionaries (*.idx)
• DSL dictionaries (*.dsl)
• XDXF dictionaries (*.xdxf)
• Dictd dictionaries (*.index)
• TSV/Plain dictionaries (*.txt, *.dic)
• Hunspell dictionaries (*.aff)

Setting up dictionaries:

• Connect your mobile device to your computer.
• Copy dictionary files to the app's documents/files folder on device ². See Android help ³ for details.
• Select the dictionary index file as listed in the compatibility section above (or an archive of it) using the "Import Dictionary" option of the "Manage" menu.
• Select multiple indexes/files, with each selection assumed and analyzed as one dictionary. (optional)
• Select resource ZIP files (if any) to copy during importing. (optional)
• Edit properties of the dictionary such as visible name using the "Edit Properties" option of the dictionary menu. (optional)
• Create a full-text search index of the dictionary using the "Upgrade" option of the dictionary menu. (optional)
• Create profiles to group and organize dictionaries. (optional)

Resource files:

Resource files of a dictionary can be put into multiple ZIP files with arbitrary sizes and file names. The resource ZIP files placed into the root folder of a dictionary (beside Main.props file) will be detected and indexed automatically.

Full-text search:

The app supports searching full-text of all dictionaries for exact matches. The feature requires a one-time upgrading ("Upgrade All" option of the "Manage" menu) of a dictionary which can take a very long time to complete, since every single word anywhere on the dictionary is made searchable during the process.

Synchronizing between devices:

Copying/moving dictionaries between devices is done using one of the two available methods:

• "Export Dictionary" to an *.aaf file on the first device and then "Import Dictionary" that *.aaf file on the second
• Copy/move whole "Alpus.Config" folder or individual dictionary folders using a file manager or built-in file operations

Search types:

There are five kinds of searches you can perform on dictionaries.

• Regular search: Shows results exactly matching the query.
• Extended matching search: Shows results matching the query with case, diacritics, and punctuations ignored. Suggestions include in-phrase and phonetic matches.
• Full-text search: Shows list of articles containing exact matches of the query. The scope of search is not limited to headwords and includes all text in all articles (definitions, synonyms, examples, etc).
• Fuzzy search: Shows list of articles most similar to the query. The search works like a spell checker for words you're not sure how it's written/spelled.
• Wildcard search: Shows list of articles that match the criteria set with a wildcard query.

Questions & Answers

Q: What is an APK File?

A: Just like Windows (PC) systems use an .exe file for installing software, Android does the same. An APK file is the file format used for installing software on the Android operating system.

Q: If I install an APK from this website, will I be able to update the app from the Play Store?

A: Yes, absolutely. The Play Store installs APKs it downloads from Google's servers, and sideloading from a site like ApkClean.net goes through a very similar process, except you're the one performing the downloading and initiating the installation (sideloading).
As soon as the Play Store finds a version of the app newer than the one you've sideloaded, it will commence an update.

Q: Why ApkClean.net can guarantee APK 100% safe?

A: Whenever someone wants to download an APK file from ApkClean.net, we'll check the corresponding APK file on Google Play and allow user download it directly (of course, we'll cache it on our server). If the APK file does not exist on Google Play, we'll search it in our cache.

Q: What are Android App permissions?

A: Apps require access to certain systems within your device. When you install an application, you are notified of all of the permissions required to run that application.

Don't hesitate to contact us if you have any questions or concerns.

2 ★I don't know who use it, but it's too difficult to me. And I am NOT a stupid person.
5 ★Robust and versatile dictionary app. It also has companion desktop programs for all platforms.
5 ★Excellent dictionary app, thanks.
5 ★Very good start! I also used the win companion app, very nice! Regarding this android app, I am missing a few things: the ability to change the appearance, tts and fora's performance. I guess for now I have to use css.. Where do I put the css file?
3 ★It helps a lot...
1 ★Apparently imported a few DSL dictionaries, buy when I search there is no result
2 ★We can import hundreds of different dictionaries, but the most important one (Eglish Wiktionary) is missing. Why? Also, importing and extracting a dictionary is painfully slow. I honestly cannot see a difference between this app (more advanced?) and the old one - Fora. They are the same to me. Also, how many different versions of Fora do you have? Three or four ? Why creating a confusion with the different names and options when the original Fora is a fine product, the oldest and the best known. My advice to you: stick with the original Fora (free and Pro versions) and forget the rest. Bring Wiktionary, make some improvements, and you'll have the best product on the market. Cheers, mate !
2 ★Compared to Fora dictionary, the previous app. ------ And this you say is the new, modernised version? It's the same rubbish as the previous, the only difference is that this has white background compared to the black in Fora. And please don't fiddle with things that worked well before, I'm talking about importing dictionaries. At least there's semi sd card support.
1 ★Why did you removed speaking button? This app is more backward than Fora
3 ★Cannot access its settings.
1 ★No thanks!
5 ★Good
