เนื่องในโอกาสที่สมเด็จพระเทพรัตนราชสุดาฯ สยามบรมราชกุมารี ทรงเจริญพระชนมายุครบ 60 พรรษา ในวันที่ 2 เมษายน พ.ศ. 2558 มหาวิทยาลัยศิลปากร และหน่วยงานในกำกับซึ่งประกอบด้วยคณะโบราณคดี คณะจิตรกรรมประติมากรรมและภาพพิมพ์ คณะสถาปัตยกรรมศาสตร์ คณะมัณฑนศิลป์ คณะดุริยางคศาสตร์ และหอศิลป์ มหาวิทยาลัยศิลปากร จึงได้ร่วมมือกันจัดทำโครงการจัดทำสื่อสิ่งพิมพ์ดิจิตอลนิทรรศการเฉลิมพระเกียรติ 60 พรรษา สมเด็จพระเทพรัตนราชสุดาฯ สยามบรมราชกุมารี เรื่อง สมเด็จพระเทพรัตนราชสุดาฯ สยามบรมราชกุมารี กับ มหาวิทยาลัยศิลปากร ด้วยเป็นที่ตระหนักดีว่าสมเด็จพระเทพรัตนราชสุดาฯ สยามบรมราชกุมารี ทรงพระปรีชาสามารถเป็นเลิศทางด้านศิลปะสาขาต่างๆ ทรงเป็นเมธีด้านวัฒนธรรม ทรงมีพระมหากรุณาธิคุณอันยิ่งใหญ่ต่อศิลปวัฒนธรรมของชาติ อีกทั้งยังทรงเป็นนักศึกษาเก่าของมหาวิทยาลัยศิลปากร ทรงสำเร็จการศึกษาปริญญาศิลปศาสตรมหาบัณฑิต สาขาจารึกภาษาตะวันออก จากมหาวิทยาลัยศิลปากร ในปีการศึกษา 2522 ทรงเป็นนักศึกษาเก่าดีเด่นของมหาวิทยาลัยศิลปากร ในปีพ.ศ. 2536 และยังทรงส่งเสริมสนับสนุนกิจกรรมด้านศิลปวัฒนธรรมของมหาวิทยาลัยศิลปากรสืบเนื่องมาโดยตลอดดังนั้น มหาวิทยาลัยศิลปากรและหน่วยงานในกำกับข้างต้น จึงร่วมมือร่วมใจกันจัดทำโครงการสื่อสิ่งพิมพ์ดิจิตอลนิทรรศการเฉลิมพระเกียรติ 60 พรรษา สมเด็จพระเทพรััตนราชสุดาฯ สยามบรมราชกุมารี เรื่อง สมเด็จพระเทพรััตนราชสุดาฯ สยามบรมราชกุมารี กับ มหาวิทยาลัยศิลปากร เพื่อเฉลิมพระเกียรติคุณในวาระมหามงคลยิ่งนี้ และเพื่อน้อมสำนึกในพระมหากรุณาธิคุณที่ทรงมีต่อมหาวิทยาลัยศิลปากร
