Chương trình học bổng Viet Uc Family bắt đầu hình thành với ý tưởng của ông Stevenson - người mà tất cả mọi người trong gia đình Việt Úc đều gọi bằng cái tên thân thương: "Dad". Lúc đó, khi đang sinh sống và làm việc tại thành phố Adelaide, miền Nam nước Úc, Dad Stevenson đã nói chuyện với Sơ Nien, là giảng viên tại Trường Đại học Adelaide, về ý tưởng muốn giúp đỡ sinh viên nghèo Việt Nam có trí tuệ, học lực, sự quyết tâm học tập tại các trường đại học và cao đẳng tại Việt Nam, nhưng do hoàn cảnh kinh tế và gia đình khó khăn, khó có thể theo đuổi con đường học tập. Dad Stevenson mong muốn hỗ trợ phần nào để những sinh viên này bớt khó khăn và được tiếp tục học tập, thực hiện ước mơ, hoài bão của mình.Mới đầu, qua sự quen biết trong các nhà thờ Thiên Chúa giáo, Sơ Niên có nhờ Cha Nguyễn Văn Tuyến, là Cha tại nhà thờ ở quận Tân Bình, TP.HCM, tìm và giới thiệu các sinh viên nghèo, có hoàn cảnh khó khăn, hiện đang học tập tại các trường đại học và cao đẳng tại TP.HCM.Sự hình thành và phát triển của Viet Uc Family còn phải kể đến công sức rất lớn của anh Đoàn Minh Nam - người đã sát cánh cùng Dad Stevenson để hình thành nên chương trình học bổng này.Chức năng chính:
