Ma il progetto, nato da una collaborazione tra Giornale del Popolo e TeleCampione, è destinato a crescere e ad entrare nelle case dei ticinesi come fonte di un’informazione locale agile e capillare.
La società diretta da Filippo Lombardi prende il nome di TeleTicino nel 1996 e pur mantenendo quel carattere confidenziale che ancora oggi la contraddistingue passa da un modello artigianale ad una
struttura professionale che diversifica i propri contenuti in informazione, approfondimento ed intrattenimento.
Nel 1999 TeleTicino riceve la Concessione svizzera per operare in proprio come emittente televisiva.
Il momento di svolta si rivela il 2007, anno in cui TeleTicino acquisisceTicinonews.ch e Radio3i per entrare a far parte di TImedia Holding SA, accanto a Corriere del Ticino e a Giornale del Popolo.
