Description
The SynScan hand controller is now available as an app on your smart device. Use this app to control the AZ GTi mount or other Sky-Watcher or Orion telescope mounts fitted with a SynScan Wi-Fi adapter.This version of the SynScan app is suited for novice users using alt-azimuth mounts.
This app supports ASCOM on Windows PC. Driver can be downloaded from www.skywatcher.com or www.telescope.com

1 ★The apps help doesn't help. Connects fine. Manual alignment for the first of 2-star won't let cursor keys work, phone buzzes, and it seems to won't me to point the phone at the target. Why?? This wasn't the case before. So can't align SynScan AZ, so adapter & app useless. Why has this changed? Diagnosis, this is a bug with the SynScan App and the ScanScan Pro appy. Works perfectly with the Windows SynScan App, with identical settings and to the Android apps. Summary these apps with a SynScan AZ Goto mount, 2 star alignment, won't permit manual cursors to move the telescope mount to the first star, just an error BUZZ, but the Windows App works perfectly. Unless someone knows different? SO CAN'T USE ANDROID DEVICES. Can anyone do a bug fix? Where is support for the SynScan App & Dongle, nothing on Skywatcher sites.
4 ★Used this app for a few night observing, no problem to connect and findstargets as easily as my Synscan handset on another scope. Problems that Ihad can be resolved by downloading the Pro version of this app which givesmuch more user control. The app team were very helpful and quick to respond.
3 ★App seemed fine at first with tracking options of lunar, solar and siderealrates but now only has lunar or sidereal ... no good for solar observing.No idea why solar has bern removed.
3 ★It kills compass, need to restart phone everytime
2 ★Works ok on older Androids, but simply claims "cannot connect" on 8.1.
3 ★Works ok but getting wifi station mode on and access point to switch and save difficult. Instructions too brief. On Nexus 6p Android 8 kills compass and other sensors for other apps until phone restarted. Much easier to align than hand controller.
2 ★Won't connect to the synscan wifi module. It shows up but then fails to connect. It works perfectly in iOS. Edit: app will now connect as I've changed synscan settings via iOS. Unfortunately the app on here won't align properly and thinks, for example, that Polaris is underground. It sleeps in seemingly random directions. iOS version has no problem Re:reply from PTC. Erm...both location and time are correct. (Always were) App still drives my mount crazy.
2 ★I have a Samsung Galaxy Note 8 and this app somehow kills its compass! Only a restart fixes it. This makes it extremely difficult aligning my scope and using other apps to star gaze. I'm quite surprised it manages to do this, presumably it's crashing some driver
5 ★Have used it for 4 observation nights with SkySafari on top and works surprisingly well, GoTos are very very accurate. Did have the occasional crash but i think that's more to do with Android. Please add alignment sync on current position to an object (regardless of alignment status) ! So that when it crashes (and running on a complex OS it will crash much more than the embedded software of the hand controller) i can realign by basically telling it where it left off, instead of doing the whole procedure once more
4 ★This review was written after two observing attempts during challenging Scottish conditions. One successful the other not so. For: In short, very promising app, telescope responds well to commands from the tablet. Basic Solar Tracking easy and quick to set up. Does not kill the phone / tablet with fancy Graphics. Needs work on: Alignment object list needs more work -ability to name a star / planet THAT IS visible if it doesn't appear on the list - as well as Alignment on a single item. Night one set up and located 5 items in a break in the cloud of around 15 minutes - was impressed with the easy set up. Night 2, the second Alignment star was covered in cloud. The Stars that were visible, were not on the list... Vega, big, bright not on list! or Saturn for that matter! scope set up for 0 to 90 degrees... A jpg of the constellation map on alignment page would also be nice touch.

5 ★Found the app very easy to use and more helpful than the hand held controller. Lots of useful information is put in front of you to make good alignment star decisions. Easier to attain a useful alignment using the app plus wifi module. Initially had trouble connecting to the module from the app's initial screen but found that if you open the app's settings before attempting to connect it connects every time. Recommend this app to people like me with limited astronomical knowledge.
