Description
The Offline Location Finder App, also called the " Where Am I ? " App, is useful when you don't have a data plan or any offline maps. It will use your GPS signal to determine return a list of cities, villages, towns, etc. that are closest to you.This App only contains data for Canada. No downloading or anything required. Just install the App and make sure your phone has GPS. Also ensure that the location service is on and that you allow permissions for Location if you have Android 6.0 or later.
It will show you the distance in kilometers (KMs) and Miles as well as a bearing (direction in degrees where north is 0 and 360 and increases clockwise - e.g. south is 180). It will show the bearing to and from the location.
So if you have any "technologically challenged" friends / family and need a fix on where they are, you can just have them load the app and tell you. They can say "I am 2kms from Thunder Bay" which would mean that you are 2kms 15 degrees NNE from the center (usually where the Bus Station is) of Thunder Bay.
It will also show you your longitude / latitude location so anyone can type these into Google Maps, etc. and determine where you are!
Why I built this: My mom was stuck in a GO Bus on a road where an accident had occurred and the driver had to take a u-turn and had no idea where she was. She didn't have Google Offline Maps installed. With this app, she could have told me, "I'm x kms from ..." and I would have been able to know roughly what the driver's doing, etc...
