Description
Анджело - Эта поэма-новелла и вместе с тем поэма-драма начата в феврале, закончена 27 октября 1833 г. в Болдине. В рукописи указано: "Анджело (повесть, взятая из шекспировской трагедии "Measure for measure" ("Мера за меру")". Пьеса Шекспира привлекла к себе сочувственное внимание Пушкина глубоко психологической разработкой образа Анджело. В одной из заметок 1835-1836 гг., противопоставляя Шекспира Мольеру, Пушкин писал: "Лица, созданные Шекспиром, не суть, как у Мольера, типы такой-то страсти, такого-то порока, но существа живые, исполненные многих страстей, многих пороков.Сперва Пушкин собирался перевести пьесу, но затем вступил на путь свободной переработки, перенеся действие из Австрии в Италию (сам Шекспир заимствовал сюжет пьесы из итальянской хроники). Поэма была опубликована в 1834 г. (в альманахе А. Ф. Смирдина "Новоселье", ч. II).
Критикой, в том числе и Белинским, поэма была встречена резко отрицательно; но сам Пушкин, по свидетельству ближайшего друга последних лет его жизни П. В. Нащокина, ставил "Анджело" очень высоко. "Наши критики, - говорил он Нащокину, - не обратили внимания на эту пиесу и думают, что это одно из слабых моих сочинений, тогда как ничего лучше я не написал".
