Para santri mungkin tidak asing lagi dengan hadits di atas. Meski mereka tidak langsung membacanya di kitab Shahîhain, hadits tersebut pasti ditemukan di awal kitab Matan al-Ghayah wa at-Taqrîb karya al-Qâdhi Abu Syuja’, yang sehari-hari mereka kaji di pesantren. Kitab ini mengulas soal dasar-dasar hukum Islam atau yang kerap disebut ilmu fiqih.Ilmu fiqih dapat dipastikan ada di setiap kurikulum lembaga pendidikan keislaman, baik pondok pesantren di Indonesia, maupun lembaga lainnya di seluruh penjuru dunia. Yang demikian karena ilmu fiqih adalah ilmu yang sangat penting. Ia menyangkut tingkah laku atau perbuatan tiap orang yang sudah memikul tanggung jawab hukum (mukallaf). Maka tidak salah jika ilmu fiqih, dalam kitab Ta’lim Muta’allim disebut sebagai ‘sebaik-baiknya pemimpin’, paling utamanya ilmu, perisai yang melindungi dari marabahaya, dan juga orang yang ahli fiqih lebih baik daripada orang ahli ibadah.
Kitab ini disusun oleh Syekh Ahmad bin Husain bin Ahmad Al-Asfihâni atau dikenal dengan al-Qâdhi Abu Syuja’ (433-593 H). Dalam sebagian naskah, kitab ini dinamakan dengan “Matan Taqrîb”, dan sebagian naskah lainnya dinamakan “Ghâyatul Ikhtishâr”, oleh sebab demikian Syekh Ibn Qâsim al-Ghâzi memberikan dua nama untuk kitab syarah Taqrîb yang beliau tulis: Fathul Qarîb al-Mujîb fî Syarh Alfâdz at-Taqrîb dan Al-Qawl al-Mukhtâr fî Syarh Ghâyah al-Ikhtishâr (Syekh Ibn Qâsim al-Ghâzi, Fathul Qarîb, Beirut: Dar Ibn Hazm, 2005, h. 19).
Sesuai dengan namanya, kitab ini disusun dengan sangat ringkas, bahasanya tidak terlalu sulit, tidak memuat banyak perbedaan pendapat. Latar belakang penyusunan kitab ini ialah permintaan sebagian sahabat al-Qâdhi Abu Syuja’, agar beliau berkenan untuk menyusun kitab fiqih mazhab Imam Syafii yang ringkas, mudah dihafal, dan gampang dicerna sistematika pembahasannya, khususnya bagi pelajar pemula.
