A: Just like Windows (PC) systems use an .exe file for installing software, Android does the same. An APK file is the file format used for installing software on the Android operating system.
Q: If I install an APK from this website, will I be able to update the app from the Play Store?
A: Yes, absolutely. The Play Store installs APKs it downloads from Google's servers, and sideloading from a site like ApkClean.net goes through a very similar process, except you're the one performing the downloading and initiating the installation (sideloading). As soon as the Play Store finds a version of the app newer than the one you've sideloaded, it will commence an update.
Q: Why ApkClean.net can guarantee APK 100% safe?
A: Whenever someone wants to download an APK file from ApkClean.net, we'll check the corresponding APK file on Google Play and allow user download it directly (of course, we'll cache it on our server). If the APK file does not exist on Google Play, we'll search it in our cache.
Q: What are Android App permissions?
A: Apps require access to certain systems within your device. When you install an application, you are notified of all of the permissions required to run that application.

1 ★Update: Soooo many bugs still in latest Jan 13 update on Android. Still can't get past Step 2 of firmware update, so Control-r unit still bricked. Still can't enter State in address. Still can't register unit (both scan and manual entry of serial no. response is "Serial Number not Valid". Really? Rating unchanged at -2 stars. Rinnai, please hire someone who can program Android apps!! I smell a class-action lawsuit coming.
2 ★Setup takes forever! Keeps trying to update module software, although it's been updated. Can't connect it to internet. Setup loop hell. App needs serious overhaul! P.s. On 2nd module after first one bit the dust after 10 months. Really a shame, because the water heater itself is really good. UPDATED: Finally got setup completed after 1.5 hrs. I changed rating to 2 stars, app interface is nice. The system status has much less details than prior version. Doesn't recognize serial # as valid, huh?!
1 ★So many bugs and they don't want to hear about them. Told me just to wait.... Months later still there. I would not buy another Rinnai product because of their app. It's so hard to deal with them and they pretty much refuse to admit there's bug in the app. So sad, each release introduces more bugs and doesn't fix old ones! Wish I could buy another heater. I will always look at app reviews now before buying products!
1 ★Spent over an hour trying to pair my Control-R to my WiFi network (which didn't work until I disabled the 5 GHz band, my SSID broadcasts on both 2.4 and 5 forcing me to reconfigure my whole network). Stuck on the red/blue situation. - UI is not intuitive or informative. - Firmware updates does not provide an estimate of how long to wait. Once you're in the App, there's dozens issues * No single click "RECIRCULATION ON" mode. You have to select the recirc time THEN click start (both buttons are tiny). * When multiple controllers are in use (local Priority) vs. Control-R there's no message saying which controller is in use. You're locked out of temperature control without understanding why as a result * Setting a temperature doesn't actually set the temperature (assuming I'm not locked out.). I set it to 130 F and it says set, and I come back and it says 120F. Other times it goes to 98F and gets stuck. * System Status doesn't have a time associated with last result so I don't know if I'm reading something recent or a long time ago since it takes forever to get system data. Smaller Issues * Product Registration doesn't work (put both my Control-R and Water heater SN and it doesn't register) * Location doesn't allow me to enter my "State"
2 ★This app doesn't properly display text and menus in Android. It's still functional, but clearly hasn't been tested very well.
5 ★Update: with the new version and the firmware update the unit works as expected. The temperature stays put now. ********************************** So this app works and I see it connecting to the unit everytime I open it. I can do recirc on demand and was able to set a schedule for it too. One thing that is driving me nuts is that the unit resets to 120. I don't realize it's set low until I use the water and then I have to put it back to 140.
4 ★With the various updates most of my issues with this app have been resolved. The last concern I had was that the Alexa skill for Rinnai hasn't been working with the new app. Today a new Alexa skill " Rinnai control•r 2.0" was released and it works properly with the new app and firmware. If you have the old Alexa skill installed, disable it and set up the new one.
1 ★DO NOT UPDATE!!! App was somewhat controlling the water heater, but when I changed my Wi-Fi router it lost connection and would not reconnect. So I tried to using the 2.0 app to connect; big nothing. I am like everyone else caught in the install a and update do loop. So this means the water heater is no longer connected to WiFi and the recirculation does not work, it is now a "dumb" tankless water heater. Hopefully, the next update will allow me to reconnect. Great water heater WORTHLESS APP!!!
2 ★Updated on 3/9/2021: After several months of broken wifi connectivity I was able to get it back to work: 1) (Based on some review's here) I picked up an old phone with android 6 and installed the control-r 2.0 app. (Android 10, 11 and latest iOS does not work) 2) after a few times of connecting the app to rinnai wifi and house wifi I was able to get the update installed. 3) Now I see the Tank in the app and can control it with app 4) Had to disable the rinnai alexa skill and add the control-r 2.0 to get the alexa to work - the new command is something like: Alexa, tell control R, I need hot water. 5) This is working now but prohibitively too much work for any typical user --------------------- The update does not work - I have lost all wifi / alexa control of the water heater.
1 ★3/5 update: found a work around from using the app by setting up voice routines on Alexa. Worked very well. However, another app update hit and broke the link to alexa. Now i can't link Alexa to rinnai saying pw incorrect. Reset pw requests are not coming to my email yet i can still log into the app. Terrible execution! 1/5 update: The temperature dial is still laggy. the dial should be replaced with something more simple. My schedule recirculation times do not seem to work either.
1 ★What a waste of time updating module. After spending 3 hours trying to update after step 3 module shows blue light but not red or white so it's a loop. It's more than 4 weeks since I had been waiting for them to provide smooth and stable update. Since Dec module is behaving like this and radio button is not working so wasting lot of water before getting hot water.
4 ★Waited for 26 Jan 2021 app revision to update unit to avoid problems other reviewers were experiencing. Unit went offline end of Dec after it failed auto update. The new update went smoothly, no issues. Recirculation and scheduling now work like before it went offline. I have unit internally set & locked to 120 degrees so I can't comment on how well the adjust temp feature works. Not sure this 2.2 update adds much benefit over previous one but do like improved ability to adjust time.
