Hovedmålgruppa for Nye ord 1 og 2 er elever på småskoletrinnet og Nye ord 3-5 elever på mellomtrinnet, men bøkene kan med fordel også brukes av eldre elever som er "nybegynnere i norsk", enten de er ungdommer eller voksne. Temaene er aktuelle for alle!
