Poultry Disease App is a simple mobile app designed specifically for poultry farmers (particularly small-scale producers) to provide vital information about more than 100 poultry diseases and conditions as well as assist in diagnosing them.Diseases are the primary contributor to the year-on-year economic losses recorded in many poultry farms worldwide. This is especially evident in many developing countries where technical support and extension services are often inadequate or unavailable. This unfortunately leaves many small and often inexperienced producers to unsuccessfully tackle very complex and challenging animal health problems on their own. In many cases, these poultry farmers are put out of business by preventable disease outbreak.
This app aims to address this problem by providing producers with a comprehensive compilation of poultry diseases and conditions (over 100 items) with each disease described in easy-to-understand language. Vital information such as the type and cause of disease, the type and age of birds affected, worldwide disease distribution, infection/morbidity rate, mortality rate, clinical signs or symptoms of illness (with pictures), treatment steps and preventive measures are provided for each disease described in the app.
An easy-to-use disease diagnosis tool is also included in the app to assist users in quickly determining a shortlist of probable causes (or diseases) whenever signs of illness are observed. This tool works by using the information you provide about the symptoms observed in determining the most likely cause of illness. A score is also provided to give a sense of the accuracy of the diagnosis.
Other features provided include concise documentation on standard biosecurity practices for disease prevention, offline disease database suitable for remote users, database search, disease control tips, special notes etc.
Although developed for poultry farmers and producers, anyone with an interest in avian diseases, health and welfare will find this app extremely beneficial.
