Ciudadanos Científicos es un proyecto local de ciencia, tecnología y educación, desarrollado por el SIATA y financiado por el Área Metropolitana del Valle de Aburrá.La primera versión del proyecto se encuentra en vigencia desde diciembre de 2015, cuando algunos ciudadanos del Área Metropolitana aceptaron tener en sus hogares o lugares de trabajo una "nube", que es un sensor de bajo costo para la medición de la calidad del aire, que permite obtener datos puntuales, minuto a minuto, de temperatura, humedad y PM 2.5.
Contar con una red de esta naturaleza ha permitido enriquecer investigaciones que soportan decisiones de ciudadanos y autoridades locales; además, ha despertado la conciencia de las personas sobre su rol para contribuir al cuidado y mejoramiento de la calidad del aire en la región.
