Description

The Old English language is at once recognisable and unfamiliar: many words resemble ones that are used today, but their meanings are not always the same, and they can take many more forms than in the modern language.

Liberation Philology Old English helps you master these complexities by practice. Wherever you have your phone handy, it is ready to drill you on Old English vocabulary and grammar with a continuous multiple-choice test. Your answers are immediately confirmed or corrected, and reinforced through repetition.

• Vocabulary: 150 levels, each testing the translation of ten words between modern and Old English. A further 330 levels cover the vocabulary of Beowulf in approximate sequence. Interspersed among these are cumulative levels reviewing what has been learned earlier. Interspersed among these are cumulative levels reviewing what has been learned earlier (giving a total of 542 levels).

• Nouns: Tests your ability to parse and decline all classes of Old English nouns.

• Verbs: Tests your ability to parse and conjugate a full range of weak, strong, and irregular verbs in Old English.

A further module allows you to review the vocabulary word-list and the noun and verb paradigms.

Questions & Answers

Q: What is an APK File?

A: Just like Windows (PC) systems use an .exe file for installing software, Android does the same. An APK file is the file format used for installing software on the Android operating system.

Q: If I install an APK from this website, will I be able to update the app from the Play Store?

A: Yes, absolutely. The Play Store installs APKs it downloads from Google's servers, and sideloading from a site like ApkClean.net goes through a very similar process, except you're the one performing the downloading and initiating the installation (sideloading).
As soon as the Play Store finds a version of the app newer than the one you've sideloaded, it will commence an update.

Q: Why ApkClean.net can guarantee APK 100% safe?

A: Whenever someone wants to download an APK file from ApkClean.net, we'll check the corresponding APK file on Google Play and allow user download it directly (of course, we'll cache it on our server). If the APK file does not exist on Google Play, we'll search it in our cache.

Q: What are Android App permissions?

A: Apps require access to certain systems within your device. When you install an application, you are notified of all of the permissions required to run that application.

4 ★Really useful, but I did spend a month or two learning the basics elsewhere. It does shine for testing conjugations, etc; but could do with a basic tutorial and a few bells and whistles. I am enjoying it and I expect to use it a lot
5 ★I gave the matter a little thought before buying this app. I know it's only 4 bucks so I didn't mind that. I simply didn't want to be disappointed by a piece of junk. But, lo to my very great surprise and pleasure, I found this app absolutely amazing. I read how some would like sound to go with the app. What I'd like and would happily pay for is an app addressing other parts of speech, preps, conjunctions, adverbs, etc. Thanks, keep the good work coming.
5 ★5 stars, especially the grammar testing is where this app really shines. I would like to see some more complex OE words in future versions, the lexis currently being tested is rather basic. More poetic vocab and the ability to add your own items would be fantastic. So would a testing timer. Some of the use of macrons is inconsistent. Thanks to the dev!
5 ★I really like this app, the fun way to learn about Old English.
3 ★I think audio pronouncing the words would be amazing. I generally can see how to pronounce but I also agree dotting the 'y's and adding the 'eth' (đ) symbols would be useful. I don't think it's worth the money, you could easily see similar apps for free
4 ★This app is very useful as far as it goes, but since it is for the beginner, the following changes would perfect it: marking of long vowels; marking of "dotted" c and g; paradigms for pronouns.
5 ★Pronoun paradigms would be great! I also liked the black background better, would be nice to be able to change it manually. Anyway it's still great.
5 ★A very nice tool with a lot of data
4 ★Maybe the addition for pronoun paradigms would be helpful to others?
5 ★Definitely worth the $2. Great for vocab but also super helpful for learning paradigms (and significantly more engaging than just memorizing a chart).
5 ★This app is great practice for students taking Old English or self-directed people with an accompanying grammar book. It tests your knowledge of vocabulary, noun declensions, and verb conjugations. It's not self-explanatory, and there are no phrases or sentences, so it will work best with a book (or good OE grammar website), but as an app it is perfect. I will be recommending it to my OE students. I'm looking forward to trying Old Norse and Gothic apps. One bug: Any time a nominative plural noun is shown and "Nom. Plur" is selected, the answer appears in blue (instead of green) and is counted as incorrect.
