Description
Quase 4 mil empresas foram abertas nos primeiros 10 anos do Programa de Revitalização e Desenvolvimento da Região Central Histórica de Santos, o conhecido Alegra Centro. Criado em 2003 para promover a recuperação do patrimônio arquitetônico santista e proporcionar a melhoria da paisagem urbana, a iniciativa teve o objetivo alcançado por meio de vários incentivos fiscais a companhias que se instalaram nesta região da cidade.Até 2012, foram concedidas 299 isenções fiscais. Os investimentos com o programa somaram R$ 173,29 milhões. Ao todo, 490 obras de restauração foram realizadas e o escritório técnico do Alegra Centro fez 2.916 atendimentos.
Ações como a restauração dos teatros Coliseu e Guarany, Casa do Trem Bélico e Estação Ferroviária do Valongo também fizeram parte do programa, bem como a implantação de um Poupatempo, a transferência da Câmara Municipal para o Castelinho (antigo prédio dos Bombeiros) e, mais recentemente, a decisão de instalar o Museu Pelé no antigo Casarão do Valongo.
Esses projetos, aliados ao momento favorável de desenvolvimento econômico, atraíram investidores privados de pequeno, médio e grande porte para a instalação de inúmeros estabelecimentos comerciais entre restaurantes, lojas de departamentos, mercados, farmácias... Outros empreendimentos comerciais que devem potencializar as ações do programa serão inaugurados em breve – como exemplo, a futura sede da Petrobrás.
