Description

Really Bad Chess is just like chess, but with totally random pieces. Try 8 Knights, 4 Bishops, and 3 pawns — why not?

As heard on NPR's Weekend Edition

5 out of 5 Stars "An essential puzzle experience for anyone even remotely interested in strategy games" - TouchArcade

Whether you play chess daily, or quit just after learning the rules, this small twist will open the door to an entire new world of chess.

------WHATS IN THE “BOX”?
The free version of Really Bad Chess lets you compete vs. an AI in Ranked, Daily, or Weekly Challenges. Improve your skills using the included Freeplay mode. A single in-app purchase unlocks Versus Mode so you can compete against your friends locally! It also removes ads, displays captured pieces, and adds soothing alternate color-palettes to choose from.

------REALLY BAD PRESS

"Makes chess fun even if you’re really bad" - The Verge

"Feels more modern than chess has ever felt" - Applenapps

"Really Bad Chess takes a really bad idea and somehow manages to make it a lot of fun." - Pocket Gamer

------A WORD FROM THE DEVELOPER
Chess is one of those games I always wished I enjoyed, but its commitment to beauty, elegance, and perfect balance always turned me away. Really Bad Chess removes these boring restrictions and flips chess on its head.

As much as random pieces change the game in some ways, I was really surprised to notice how much the game remains the same, and how powerful some pieces are — you've never truly struggled against a pawn until you've struggled against a pawn in the back row.

For chess pros, Really Bad Chess will give you a new type of challenge — the pieces & the moves are the same, but you'll have to throw out your openings and your understanding of normal patterns of play.

For novice chess players (like most of us), Really Bad Chess greatly opens up the game. Instead of starting by studying openings, in your first games you'll get to discover the joy (and challenge!) of learning how to checkmate.

I hope you have as much fun with Really Bad Chess as much as I did making it.

Questions & Answers

Q: What is an APK File?

A: Just like Windows (PC) systems use an .exe file for installing software, Android does the same. An APK file is the file format used for installing software on the Android operating system.

Q: If I install an APK from this website, will I be able to update the app from the Play Store?

A: Yes, absolutely. The Play Store installs APKs it downloads from Google's servers, and sideloading from a site like ApkClean.net goes through a very similar process, except you're the one performing the downloading and initiating the installation (sideloading).
As soon as the Play Store finds a version of the app newer than the one you've sideloaded, it will commence an update.

Q: Why ApkClean.net can guarantee APK 100% safe?

A: Whenever someone wants to download an APK file from ApkClean.net, we'll check the corresponding APK file on Google Play and allow user download it directly (of course, we'll cache it on our server). If the APK file does not exist on Google Play, we'll search it in our cache.

Q: What are Android App permissions?

A: Apps require access to certain systems within your device. When you install an application, you are notified of all of the permissions required to run that application.

5 ★I honestly love this game, yet my mate (who's a really good chess player) can't stand it lol. It's a great change of pace from actual chess, whilst still engaging your brain.
3 ★The game idea is great, however the waiting time for the enemy player, which is a BOT, is way too long. I don't know if they were going for an irl type, or just have bad bots, but it's the only thing that ruined the experience for me
4 ★I'm enjoy chess, even if I'm not the best at it. One thing about it is that it always starts the same way, and making the first move was always so hard for me. Really Bad Chess makes it so that the first move will always be hard since your pieces are never the same. It's simple, but actually a fun spin on the classic. My main issue is that 1v1 play is locked behind a paywall, which makes sense, but sucks as it's probably the most natural one considering how chess is normally played.
1 ★Make more than 1 AI difficulty and stop hiding 1v1 behind a paywall. If it costs money to avoid using the AI why would you litter the game with ads that dont close properly. A decent game idea delivered in the worst possible way. By the way the AI takes a long time to decide the moves.
5 ★Perfect other than annoying ads. At first, it was pretty clear: ads for undos, and once every few matches. Then it started pulling double-ads and shoving ads any time possible. It was embarrassing.
5 ★Its actually really great chess. I enjoy the daily and weekly challenges. Its a very interesting game in general. I have always imagined playing chess with totally random pieces.
5 ★If you are reading this review you already know what it is about its a pretty simple concept to grasp so let me tell you about the execution first you always play against ai unless you choose 1v1 and your luck is determined by your skill the better you are the worse your luck you have to pay for the 1v1 feature but thats ok u pretty good execution with concepts easy to understand and delightful to anyone who knows how to play chess makes it easy for anyone who understands chess to get into
4 ★Chess has become rather stagnant for me as of late. This fixes that. There are no openings to remember, countless new tactics to discover, and a fun new experience each game. If you enjoy complicated positions and playing the best moves that nullify any of your opponents best move, then unfortunately this isn't for you. The AI isn't very good, and the only time when it's actually challenging is when it has better pieces or starting positions. I wish this had a Player vs. Player. If then, 5 star.
5 ★Intuitive design, non-intrusive ads, a hilariously simple yet interesting concept, and a clean aesthetic. You can't ask for much more out of a free mobile game. This is easily one of the best ways to waste time on your phone.
1 ★The main reason i give this one star is the sheer amount of undiluted rage i feel when i lose a game and immediately have to see an ad. I think that if i lose a game you should give me a little room to breathe before you force an ad on me. Words cannot describe the anger that having to see some insipid ad inspires in me milliseconds after losing. Please either make them optional (able to exit them immediately) or make them play at some other time.
3 ★I is a really fun concept and I do enjoy the game, however you have to wait along time on the AI's moves which makes it almost unplayable. If the speed of the AI would be increased it would be really good app.
5 ★Fun, but extremely challenging. Definitely have to develop new playing strategies in order to master the game.
