ในแต่ละปี เกษตรกรจะต้องเขียนแบบคำร้องขอขึ้นทะเบียนเกษตรกรหรือขอปรับปรุงข้อมูลทะเบียนที่ขึ้นไว้แล้ว (แบบ ทบก.)
เพื่อใช้บอกกับหน่วยงานรัฐว่าในปีนี้ได้ทำการเกษตร ในเอกสารสิทธิ์ฉบับใดบ้าง
เช่น การลงทะเบียนทำนา เมื่อเกิดอุทกภัย(น้ำท่วม) ภัยแล้ง หน่วยงานรัฐจะได้มีข้อมูลว่าจะต้องช่วยเหลือ บรรเทาหรือไม่
ซึ่งในเอกสาร ทบก. จำเป็นจะต้อง กรอกพิกัดตำแหน่งที่ตั้งของเอกสารสิทธิ์ หรือโฉนดฉบับนั้น เกษตรกรบางท่านไม่ได้จดข้อมูลเดิมเก็บไว้ จึงจำเป็นต้องใช้งานโปรแกรม "พิกัดนา" เพื่อดูค่าพิกัดภูมิศาสตร์
พิกัดภูมิศาสตร์ ที่ต้องกรอกประกอบไปด้วย
1. ) โซน ประเทศไทยจะมีสองโซนคือ 47 หรือ 48 แล้วแต่พื้นที่ของแต่ละจังหวัด
2. ) ค่า X (ค่าเอ็ก) หมายถึง ค่าของทิศตะวันออก
3. ) ค่า Y (ค่าวาย) หมายถึง ค่าของทิศเหนือ
การใช้งานโปรแกรม
1. ) ต้องไปยืนใกล้ตำแหน่งที่ต้องการหาค่าพิกัด เช่น กลางนา กลางสวน หัวไร่ปลายนา ในสวยยาง ริมบ่อปลา
2. ) เปิดใช้งานอินเทอร์เนต และ เปิดใช้งานตำแหน่งหรือเรียกว่าเปิดจีพีเอส (ศึกษาจากวีดีโอแนะนำวิธีใช้งาน)
3. ) ยืนนิ่ง ๆ รอสักสามวินาที แล้วค่อยเปิดโปรแกรม อ่านค่าพิกัด
หมายเหตุ การยืนในบริเวณอาคาร อาจจะทำให้มีความคลาดเคลื่อนได้
