ظهرت لعبة "ملك ولا كتابة" في مباريات الكرة لإجراء القرعة بين الفريقين، كما وصلت شهرتها إلى عمل فيلم سينمائي يحمل اسمها "ملك وكتابة".
وكانت هذه اللعبة الأشهر بين الأطفال، إذ أنها لا تتطلب أكثر من عملة معدنية وشخصين، أحدهما يقذف العملة إلى الأعلى والآخر يكون عليه أن يخمن الإجابة الصحيحة، هل وجه العملة الذي تحت يد خصمه يحمل صورة "ملك" أم "كتابة". ويعود أصل هذ اللعبة إلى 1930، عندما صدرت عملة بقيمة 50 قرشا، تحمل على أحد وجهيها صورة ملك مصرفؤاد الأول، إذ يظهر بزي عسكري على وجه العملة الذهبية ويضع فوق رأسه طربوشا. أما الوجه الآخر فكان عبارة عن "كتابة" منقوشة عليها المملكة المصرية وتاريخ طبعها في 1930، إضافة إلى قيمتها والتي تساوي 50 قرشا.
