Stagefright Detector scans your device to determine whether you are affected by the Stagefright 1.0 vulnerability and provides you with practical advice on how to protect yourself and your device, such as immediately installing any patch from your carrier or OEM and disabling MMS auto-fetch in your default messaging app until your device is patched.

More about Stagefright:

■ What is the Stagefright vulnerability?

The Stagefright vulnerability refers to a critical vulnerability that was discovered last week in the Stagefright library, an open source media player used by 95% of Android devices. The vulnerability is particularly troublesome because it can be delivered via MMS, which is automatically downloaded to the Android device by default, giving a potential attacker the ability to remotely control and steal data from the device. Currently there is no evidence that these exploits are being used in the wild. The Stagefright vulnerability affects any Android device running Froyo 2.2 to Lollipop 5.1.1 and has been documented with the following reference numbers: CVE-2015-1538, CVE-2015-1539, CVE-2015-3824, CVE-2015-3826, CVE-2015-3827, CVE-2015-3828, CVE-2015-3829.

■ Will Stagefright Detector fix the Stagefright vulnerability?

Stagefright Detector is designed to keep you informed about the status of your device.
Stagefright Detector will not fix the vulnerability, because the vulnerability can only be fixed once a patch is released by Google, your carrier or your device manufacturer, which typically is delivered through a System Update. To check if a patch is available for most Android devices, go to Settings and click System Updates.

Questions & Answers

Q: What is an APK File?

A: Just like Windows (PC) systems use an .exe file for installing software, Android does the same. An APK file is the file format used for installing software on the Android operating system.

Q: If I install an APK from this website, will I be able to update the app from the Play Store?

A: Yes, absolutely. The Play Store installs APKs it downloads from Google's servers, and sideloading from a site like ApkClean.net goes through a very similar process, except you're the one performing the downloading and initiating the installation (sideloading).
As soon as the Play Store finds a version of the app newer than the one you've sideloaded, it will commence an update.

Q: Why ApkClean.net can guarantee APK 100% safe?

A: Whenever someone wants to download an APK file from ApkClean.net, we'll check the corresponding APK file on Google Play and allow user download it directly (of course, we'll cache it on our server). If the APK file does not exist on Google Play, we'll search it in our cache.

Q: What are Android App permissions?

A: Apps require access to certain systems within your device. When you install an application, you are notified of all of the permissions required to run that application.

4 ★Now it shows my phone is vulnerable when it didn't before last update. Still will prefer Zimperium version since they found the vulnerability in the first place so they have the best way of detecting Stagefreight
5 ★Reading through the comments I am loosing all faith I had left for humanity. Couple things. If you can't receive mms then you are not at risk due to it being spread with mms. The description tells you this is NOT a fix, just a detector, you have to wait for an update from your service provider. If half you people would take 5 seconds to read something, less time than it took to write your review, you would save us all time and headaches. Sorry for the rant I just can't believe the level of stupidity here.
1 ★I think this app is either broke of it is being used to get people to download and install lookout. It reports my device as vulnerable. I've been asking T-Mobile when that were going to fix it. It so happens that the fix was pushed two months. This piece of crap software continues to report vulnerable and has caused undue stress by tricking me into thinking I was vulnerable when I was not. Good thing that I don't need it any more but causes me to question the accuracy of Lookout's other apps.
1 ★This app said I am vulnerable, update my device and disable mms. Prior to running this app auto mms was disabled and I just received the newest update last week. I think it is more about awareness than actually fixing anything.
1 ★It seems like a bad joke! Doesn't make sense. Needs to be able to warn people before not after. What is the purpose of the application? Someone should be able and go to a website. That's it! Same thing! Hello! Make a toaster next time!
5 ★So it turns out that I'm not vulnerable but it also told me that I have gonorrhea. I was like "Again?" and it was like "Oh please, don't act so surprised. You've suspected something's up ever since the bathhouse/scathouse in Mexico City." So therefore I recommend it for everybody(the app that is, not the scathouse).
4 ★This app will only detect if your device is vulnerable. The fix must come from your service/mobile phone provider. It's usually an OTA update. If your system doesn't have any updates and it says you are open to attack? You should turn off MMS on your texting until your provider sends a patch download. That's all...
1 ★Don't waste you time downloading this, I'll rated 0 stars if was possible....the current company who found this issue have release an app is say different , uninstalling any app coming from you guys lost my trust with you people telling device is safe when is not so how can we trust you other apps actually works?
5 ★So I have a rooted Verizon note 3. I use custom Rom so I confirmed with this app that I was vulnerable. Installed the fix that is on xda forums. Ran app again, no longer vulnerable. Thank you lookout. I use your regular anti virus app too.
3 ★As far as this app is concerned, it doesn't care about ur security. Its up to U the User to be aware. It was a week or more late to notify its users about the stagefright virus, & then left it up the user to install its fix as a seperate app. Instead of including it in an update. Very unprofessional. The only reason I have it, is because it comes with my cellfone provider's PKG. Well, enough Said for NOW!
3 ★Hey am I at risk if I have a non active phone? Because I can't receive messages because I'm not activated therefore does that mean I'm not at all vulnerable? Because I got this pop up on the avg app talking about this stage fright virus. And how it only sent through mms (messages) but since I'm not activated idk. But why would i receive that thing from avg??? I'm confused. Help me.
4 ★Hey everyone. This is a detector, not a remover. Don't give it bad ratings because it's doing what it is supposed to be doing. The only way to prevent the virus, for now, is to disable mms. If your phone is vulnerable, than its vulnerable. Mine is too. Until we get the fix sent to us by the manufacturer or provider, we all will be vulnerable. This helps DETECT if our mms has the virus. Let me know if I'm wrong, lookout folks.
