Q: What is an APK File?

Q: If I install an APK from this website, will I be able to update the app from the Play Store?

1 ★The app is not working properly since the last couple of updates. Tracking did not work nor did stats. Features worked great until you added the tracker "feature" now neither works. I expect so much more from Vail. Why did you have to try and fix something that was not broken? I guess it makes sense you did - you broke all of the resorts you purchased, so breaking the app is simply more of the same.
1 ★The app doesn't really work. First it just wasn't consistent now it just stopped working altogether. It doesn't log my time on the mountain even though I get scanned in with my season pass at the gondola. And I have the app running on my phone the whole day. UPDATE: They overhauld the app. Vaul untroduced some nice new features but did sob without fixing existing issues. Unfortunately the core functionality, logging your time on mountain, still does not work. In fact it's worse than last year.
2 ★(update. Upped the rating to two starts as a fix does appear to now access stats. 2 star because the current version remains inferior to prior version.). This is a horrible app and no longer functions well on Android. One cannot access ones stats which for many was a primary reason to have the app. Why anyone would trust this updated version is beyond me. We had no issues with previous version.
1 ★It would be embarrassing to be a software developer at Vail. My review from years ago still basically is the same which is unfortunate because it's been years. As ever a redesign of an app takes away useful functions. I want to know which lifts I've taken and if using the map you have to do a large download over cell data. They removed the ability to add lifts when the sensors don't work and you can't see where your family are skiing. This app is now a total loss
1 ★Dude, what happened to this app? Last season it worked great and it was so much fun to see stats for my day & compare vert with friends in the evening. Now it just spins and spins and never lets me start my day. I've tried signing in and out, reinstalling the app, and praying to the tech gods - but to no avail. Half way through my trip I still have zero stats. Kinda bummed about it. :(
2 ★Used to be awesome 3 years ago. Introduced new "stats" this year and none of it works. All of my stats from previous years are gone. Followed steps in e-mail and uninstalled and re-installed, logged in and it still doesnt work. Issue not resolved. Great app for having a trail map and seeing what lifts are running...that's about it.
1 ★awful... somehow, the Vail peeps have taken an excellent interactive app and turned it into a useless buffering wheel... company says they're making changes to improve customer experience, but it's been over two years and the app offers less and less functionality and fewer and fewer features... this season, it doesn't even work... first time I ever wished there was a zero-star option on this platform...
1 ★Worked well last year but this year its buggy and useless. Stat tracking hasn't worked right all year- the one day it worked for me half the scans didn't show up. And now the stat screen is in a perpetual loading loop. No updates, communication or effort by Vail to fix it. Also not particularly valuable in figuring out what's open when the resorts list trails that are inaccessible due to lift closures as open...
2 ★Decent, good map functionality. Would be nice if it saved filters (e.g., "Only open trails and lifts") 3-star primarily because the app keeps logging me out on Android, and does not remember password. Also, the "back" functionality had weird UX - I exit the app when I actually expect to go back to app home page. EDIT: 2-star because I cannot login on app. Confirmed that I can login online.
1 ★The app has gotten worse and worse. The version from 2017 to 2019 was far superior. Better graphics, fun activities and skills challenges, and it had the ability to plan out runs like a circuit. This new version is clunky and possibly not even useful enough to have on a device anymore. With as much money people are paying Vail Corp. world wide, it seems like they could produce an app that is as enjoyable as the resorts.
1 ★Redesign was an Epic Miss! This app was pretty good until they redid it in 2020. Now it completely sucks. It is super slow. I can't get my stats or historic info. No more challenges, pins, photos, or leaderboard - WTH?! They're not even keeping the weather forecast up to date! So called support does not reply. I want my old epic mix app back but they make you get the new one.
1 ★It appears that Vail has failed to test this app with Android 12 as the GPS tracking feature flat out doesn't work. It used to in prior years. Currently the Start button just spins in a circle and never allows you to begin tracking. Full permissions are given to the app for location and this is an updated Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra. Sad as it is fun to see where you've been. Fortunately, my girlfriend's iPhone works properly.
