Permissions

Why does CellMapper need so many permissions?
"make and manage phone calls" - This is required to get low level network data from your device
"access to device location" - In order to map and contribute, we will need to know where the data was recorded from your device.

Older versions of Android:
android.permission.ACCESS_COARSE_LOCATION - To get CellID information
android.permission.ACCESS_FINE_LOCATION - To get GPS location
android.permission.ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE - To get Cellular network information
android.permission.INTERNET - To connect to server to download map data / upload data
android.permission.READ_EXTERNAL_STORAGE - To write external CSV file if no internet connection
android.permission.READ_LOGS - To read Samsung Field Test Mode data on Android 4.1 and earlier (despite what the dialog says, the app cannot read your browsing history unless your browser write it to the system log)
android.permission.READ_PHONE_STATE - To read info about airplane mode / network settings
android.permission.RECEIVE_BOOT_COMPLETED - To start at boot time (if enabled)
android.permission.VIBRATE - To vibrate on CellID change (if enabled)
android.permission.WAKE_LOCK - For phones that do not support 4.2+ CellID Support, to ensure they report correct data
android.permission.WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE - To write external CSV file and debug report

Questions & Answers

Q: What is an APK File?

A: Just like Windows (PC) systems use an .exe file for installing software, Android does the same. An APK file is the file format used for installing software on the Android operating system.

Q: If I install an APK from this website, will I be able to update the app from the Play Store?

A: Yes, absolutely. The Play Store installs APKs it downloads from Google's servers, and sideloading from a site like ApkClean.net goes through a very similar process, except you're the one performing the downloading and initiating the installation (sideloading).
As soon as the Play Store finds a version of the app newer than the one you've sideloaded, it will commence an update.

Q: Why ApkClean.net can guarantee APK 100% safe?

A: Whenever someone wants to download an APK file from ApkClean.net, we'll check the corresponding APK file on Google Play and allow user download it directly (of course, we'll cache it on our server). If the APK file does not exist on Google Play, we'll search it in our cache.

Q: What are Android App permissions?

A: Apps require access to certain systems within your device. When you install an application, you are notified of all of the permissions required to run that application.

2 ★if the app is running it's pulling all the data it can. I can't make the app idle in the background without it sucking down my battery heavily. Even if i turn off data logging. I like the idea of this app but it needs to be less aggressive with how its done. opensignal does this much better (albiet less detailed data)
1 ★low quality/bad ux/missed vital features, crash on latest beta version
2 ★It's ok. I like that it shows where cell towers are, but it also shows a LOT of unverified cell towers in random areas where there isn't a cell tower. I understand that the tower locations are algorithm generated, and therefore not perfect, but the location algorithm needs a fair bit of work.
5 ★I gave CellMapper ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ because it does what I want when I want it. Normally I've had good signal while wandering the Southwest, so who cares where the cell towers are. But when the signal is weak I want to know so that I can "aim" my mifi device using my RV as a collector/reflector to concentrate the the signal. I seldom use CellMapper but when I need, I need it. Pixel 3XL Android 10
1 ★Completely Useless! It's like a toy. It pretends there are cell towers where there are NONE! Itcan NOT locate the towers when you park right next to one. If we, the users, must map them ourselves what's the use? The FCC map, available online, is accurate.
4 ★Awesome for mapping coverage and showing advanced info like the tower ID, sector, band info etc... -1 star because it occasionally forgets my login and have to re login but not a big deal. Awesome app and better than all the other coverage mapping applications like Sensorly or OpenSignal etc...
1 ★On my S8 plus and on my note 10 plus data was not accurate showing towers where no tower is (I'm a professional radio tech, so I know where towers are at in my area and even drove to a location it said a tower was, no tower) . Other problem is it would override my screen timeout so it was always on. Tried many things, screen stayed on till I uninstalled this app. That solved the problem. Hope that helps people.
3 ★Does not show 5g bands on one plus 8. Other networks apps have no problem since latest home software update.
5 ★Love this, some people need to understand that the app needs to be mapped and it won't be accurate with just one pass, but if you know where the masts are you can add them which I have done it's also fun mapping lol.
1 ★All I want to do is locate my nearest cell tower so that I can determine if a signal booster will work for my apartment. Websites recommend this app over and over again. I installed the app and it looks like something from the movie the Matrix and requires the app be able to make phone calls and disable power saving mode. Really!? This seems excessive for locating one stupid tower.
5 ★I have tried several similar apps, and Cell Maper was the only one which correctly showed the location of my local cell sites, and which one I was using. Very satisfied.
3 ★Is there anyway to turn off the street signal strength setting? It makes the map so cluttered when just trying to view cell locations. Also, I wish you can view all network towers on the map at the same time.
