I decided to code this app when I bought my Galaxy Nexus: this device doesn't have any physical button on the front screen. Being a quite huge phone, it's quite difficult to press the "turn off" button every time I wanted to turn it off and on. So I needed a way to turn the screen off every time I put it into the pockets and off when removed.

************ HOW IT WORKS *************
The app itself is a toggle button, to switch it on just press the App Icon. Then every time you put the phone into your pockets the screen turns off.
If you put the smartphone upside down on the table, the screen turns automatically off.
NOTE: It doesn't lock the screen (just like in a call)

In order to use Smart Screen Off LITE, you need to have a phone with Proximity Sensor (nowadays every smartphone incorporates one).

3 ★I have two Motorola Atrix 4G/MB860 smartphones with factory Gingerbread. The app turns the screen on/off via the proximity senor on both phones but if it leave the phones face down on a table for about 5 minutes they are both DOA until I pull the battery (IE.. The Power switch will not power the phone on). Glad I found this problem before I purchased the app to get the load on boot function. BTW one phone is version 2.3.4 and rooted while the other is ATT 2.3.6 and NOT rooted.
3 ★New YouTube update disabled ability to turn off screen while the sound keeps going to save battery. I installed this app as a workaround, but as soon ad the screen goes off by this app, YouTube stops playing. So it is of no use.
5 ★This is a wonderful app. I now save about 30% battery power as the sreen instantly turns off when the Galaxy goes into my pocket. The stupid lock screen never operates and many apps that keep the screen on can now operate with much less drain on battery. The app seems to use light entering the front facing camera to sense how to operate. I continue to use this app and still find it to be highly satisfactory....I can't praise it enough!
1 ★With nothing but an app install, I'm now unable to turn the screen on... Press the power button, lock screen shows for a split second, then it turns off... So now I have to wait until the battery drains and do a factory reset. Thanks for nothing...
4 ★This tiny app is hugely useful!! But, doesn't work a lot of times even if the sensor is covered. Obviously, the app has not been killed as I can see it in the notification drawer. 1 star for this issue.

1 ★Initially, I was jubilant that I had found an app that prevented butt-dialing, and loved the battery saving attribute of turning the screen off in my pocket or upside down. Shortly thereafter, THE weak link showed up. I would receive calls and if the screen had been shut down (in my pocket) for some amount of time, the screen would not turn on in time to receive a call even if I tried to use the Home button. I would be ecstatic to use the app if this were corrected, but as is, renders it worthless for my use. I don't know if another setting or app is in conflict.
3 ★Of all of the proximity sensor apps this was works exactly as advertised. The thing I wish the Dev would implement would be to remove this app from the recent apps tray.
5 ★I am perfectly satisfied with it. Free version met my need sufficiently enough. Some say it is too sensitive but this helps you see for yourself the halfway you close down ie.the lid. Feels secure that it aint touch anywhere accidentally. Thank you developer! Just too good for a free version. @LG P895
2 ★Unfortunately I don't find it reliable enough to use all the time. Seems to no longer be effective after a half hour or so.
3 ★At first, it work perfectly. But after up grade to version 4.2.2 this app was not working property. the app work at first but when sleep time reached the app deactivated it self. Why. Please help. Really like this app.
