‘우리 고장 탐구’에 적용한 증강현실 기능은 울산대학교 한삼건 교수와 김도윤 교수가 재능기부로 만들어 졌다.
증강현실 기능은 교사나 학생, 학부모가 휴대전화에서 다운받아 우리 고장 탐구 앱을 실행시키면 국보 285호인 반구대 암각화의 그림을 확대해서 코앞에서 볼 수 있는 느낌으로 자세히 살펴볼 수 있다.
또 지금은 사라진 옛 울산읍사무소(옛 울산시청) 건물도 만날 수 있을 뿐 아니라 천전리에 있는 공룡발자국 유적에서는 공룡이 움직이는 장면이 재현되고, 귀신고래 관련 내용에서는 움직이는 귀신고래를 만날 수 있다.
