このアプリは、竹尾デスクダイアリー2022「未開のことば」(Uncharted Language)のAR機能を担うものとして開発されたものです。＜竹尾デスクダイアリー2022について＞
竹尾デスクダイアリーは、株式会社竹尾が1959年以来60年以上にわたって制作するデスクダイアリー（非売品）です。昨年2021年版「地球の日めくり」は、私たちの１日１日を地球進化の歴史の一コマとして捉えてみるというコンセプトで、月毎のカレンダーに数億年単位の「地球史」のテーマ解説を配した企画でした。２年目の今年は人類の「ことば」に焦点を当て、人類の言語や文字の過去から未来への旅に誘います。
＜コンテンツとシステムの概要＞
誌面には１月から12月までの12の見開きに、昨年版と同様に「人類のことばと文字」の歴史を展開しています。それをAR技術を生かして「拡張された紙面（テキスト空間）」として演出してみました。
たとえば「声に出して詠むもの」を意味するコーラン（イスラム経典）のカリグラフィー紙面に本アプリを起動したスマホをかざすと、朗唱の声が再生されてテキストの色が変わり始める。あるいはユーラシア大陸の各地でアルファベット系文字が多形進化してゆく様を紙面にARで描写。
マンガ等に見られるようにビジュアル画面に文字・言語を混在させる日本語のテキスト空間デザインの特質を、400年前の本阿弥光悦の美術作品と現代のボカロの映像と重ね合わせて表現。現代唯一の生きた表意文字「漢字」のビジュアルランゲージとしての未来的可能性を表現する動画を、3000年以上前の甲骨文字の紙面に重ねて映写する、などの演出です。
＜本AR機能の目的と意義＞
活字文化と電子メディアの端境に生きる私たちの世代にとって、紙の冊子（アナログメディア）とデジタル情報システムの架橋・統合は避けて通れない文明的課題です。AR・MR技術はこのチャレンジの一助となるはずですが、多くはエンターテイメントや広告の領域で初歩的な実験がなされている段階であり、書物や活字のテキスト空間に蓄積されてきた膨大な知的遺産をAR技術で文字通り「拡張」し「アップグレード」する試みはいまだ未開拓といえます。本誌はそうした時代的な課題解決への一つの実験です。
