紀曉嵐寫的因果故事序
紀文達公，諱昀，清朝學者、文學家。直隸獻縣（ 今屬河北）人。字曉嵐，一字春帆，晚號石雲。乾隆進士，官至禮部尚書、協辦大學士。曾任四庫全書總篡官，篡定《四庫全書總目提要》。錄其平時所見所聞奇異之事，著《閱微草堂筆記》一書，約三十萬餘言，詳述因果六道輪迴之事證，多系真人真事，偶間有寓言者，然皆詞理周圓，堪為後世之寶鑒。警世勵俗，俾閱者知所戒慎進止。此書膾炙人口，令人拍案驚奇，昔賢評價尤在《聊齋誌異》之上。
一念孝心
去余家十餘里，有瞽者姓衛。戊午除夕，遍詣常呼彈唱家辭歲。各與以食物，自負以歸，半途失足墮枯井中，既在曠野僻徑，又家家守歲，路無行人，呼號嗌干，無應者。幸井底氣溫，又有餅餌可食，渴甚則咀水果，竟數日不死。會屠者於以勝驅豕歸，距井猶半里許，忽繩斷豕逸，狂奔野田中，亦失足墮井。持鉤出豕，乃見瞽者，已氣息僅屬矣。
不當屠者所行路，殆若或使之也。先兄晴湖問以井中情狀，瞽者曰：「是時萬念皆空，心已如死。惟念老母臥病，等瞽子以養，今並瞽子亦不得，計此時恐已餓莩，覺酸徹肝脾，不可忍耳。」先兄曰：「非此一念，王以勝所驅豕，必不斷繩。」
【譯文】
離我們老家十幾里的地方， 有位姓衛的盲藝人。乾隆戊午（一七三八）年除夕之前，他走家串戶為各家演唱辭年賀歲的小曲。每家也紛紛贈送給他一些食物，他便用口袋背著這些食物往家走。半路上，他不幸失足墜入一口枯井中。這口枯井地處荒郊曠野，又剛好是除夕，家家團圓守歲，路上幾乎沒有行人。盲藝人在枯井裏喊啞了嗓子，也沒人聽見。幸虧枯井底下溫度暖和，又有口袋裏的乾糧可吃，渴便細細地嚼幾口水果，竟然幾天不死。
正趕上有位叫王以勝的屠夫驅趕著一口豬歸來。在離枯井半里多的地方，那豬忽然掙斷繩索，在田野裏狂奔亂跑，結果也掉進了這口枯井裏。王以勝用撓鉤把豬鉤上來時，發現枯井中還有一個人，這樣，盲藝人才得救，但已奄奄一息了。
這口枯井原本不在王以勝所要走的路途上，他之所以被引到這裏來，大概是有鬼神在暗中指使吧！先兄晴湖曾問過盲藝人身處枯井中的心情狀態，盲藝人說：「我當時萬念俱空，心如死灰。只惦念家中有老母親臥病在床，還等著瞎兒子回來贍養呢！如今，她連個瞎兒子也失去了，恐怕此時早已餓得不行了，想到這裏，不由得心潮洶湧，肝膽欲裂，痛不可忍。」
先兄晴湖說：「如果盲藝人當時沒有這個念頭，想必王以勝拴豬的繩子也不會斷了。」
