Description

This is an Android home screen widget to display current weather alerts from the US National Weather Service.

You can choose a county or state within the US (or the entire US) and it will display a list of all of the current weather alerts for that area on the widget. If there's more than fits, the list scrolls, and you can tap on an alert to open the full text of the alert. There is an accompanying app which can be used to configure what area you want and shows the raw feed data if you're really curious (though that part was mostly there for debugging, and might go away one of these days now that it all works). It does not currently do audible alerts (or any alerts), but that's probably coming soon.

I created this because I wanted a tablet on the wall in my kitchen to display weather alerts on the screen, and for all the plethora of weather apps out there, I couldn't find one that showed anything more than a (!) icon on their widgets for alerts, and you had to click through to find out what they were. Some of them would put the alerts into the notification bar, but that wasn't much better. So this one displays a list of the current alerts right on the widget, and that is the only purpose of the widget.

Questions & Answers

Q: What is an APK File?

A: Just like Windows (PC) systems use an .exe file for installing software, Android does the same. An APK file is the file format used for installing software on the Android operating system.

Q: If I install an APK from this website, will I be able to update the app from the Play Store?

A: Yes, absolutely. The Play Store installs APKs it downloads from Google's servers, and sideloading from a site like ApkClean.net goes through a very similar process, except you're the one performing the downloading and initiating the installation (sideloading).
As soon as the Play Store finds a version of the app newer than the one you've sideloaded, it will commence an update.

Q: Why ApkClean.net can guarantee APK 100% safe?

A: Whenever someone wants to download an APK file from ApkClean.net, we'll check the corresponding APK file on Google Play and allow user download it directly (of course, we'll cache it on our server). If the APK file does not exist on Google Play, we'll search it in our cache.

Q: What are Android App permissions?

A: Apps require access to certain systems within your device. When you install an application, you are notified of all of the permissions required to run that application.

5 ★Yes, but.... Could it be a notification instead of a widget. A notification that is only there when there is an alert.
5 ★Almost great app (very close). I am hoping for the update sometime soon. This does pretty much what I want. The background updates are still flaky for me. Multiple location would be nice. Storing the alerts locally would be nice for seeing last warnings without current network service. Thanks for the quick update due to the NWS change (faster than USPS package delivery).
1 ★I don't like it because it doesn't work
4 ★Settings consist only of manually setting your location. It did find the alerts in my area but I have no idea if or how it will notify me of future alerts. Uninstalled. Update: My bad for not seeing the part of the description about no notifications. Would be a 5star app if it did. A very simple/lightweight free notifier is needed. Thanks to the developer for their contribution!
5 ★It's a great app. Period. I'm glad that they fixed it. For a while I couldn't use it. 🙂👍
1 ★app can not be moved to external SD memory
4 ★i like the concept, i wanted a widget that would actively show warnings. but, it doesn't work that well. i will get a warning on another system, and then i could wait up to an hour before this thing shows that warning. if i do have something, such as an advisory, and it turns into a warning, it won't update itself. sometimes i have to go into the program to see if the warning is even there, and right now it is, but the widget still shows the expired warning. it doesn't prioritize the importance of the warning either. it does it by date order. so if you have the 3x1 widget, it shows the last message and not the main one. so like it could say - there is a slippery ice advisory, but hide the warning of a blizzard on the way. more so, it takes a lot of space on the desktop. there is no reason to take up that much space, the text at the top can be smaller. they can fit more warnings if the tabs were half the height. -- i'm bumping this to a 4 since the creator did write back, and it might be an issue with my phone. since it does work at least some of the time. i still think it should be a bit smaller looking.
5 ★Easy to use. Needs a share option though
5 ★I wish this had a share option.
5 ★Awesome gadget that shows active weather alerts on my home screen.
