قصة الأب الغني و الأب الفقيريتحدث الكتاب عن قصة شخص بأبوين بعقليتين مختلفتين: الأب الفقير (هو الوالد البيولوجي للمؤلف) و الأب الغني هو بالنسبة للمؤلف الأب الروحي الذي كان يتخذه قدوة له… وهو في الأصل والد لأعز أصدقائه.
الأب الفقير:
يُشَبِّه المؤلف والده الفقير بملايين الآباء الذين يشجعون أبناءهم على التفوق في دراستهم والحصول على عمل جيد في شركة جيدة.
إذ يؤمن الأب الفقير بأن العمل الجاد و توفير المال و عدم الإسراف من المبادئ التقليدية التي يجب الإلتزام بها. و يؤمن كذلك بأن الحصول على عمل جيد في شركة قوية هو ما ينبغي للمرء أن يطمح إليه.
كما أن الأب الفقير يعبر عن خيبة أمله عندما يترك إبنه عمله في شركة كبيرة وذات صيت كبير.
الأب الغني :
يقص المؤلف حكايته حين كان عمره 9 سنوات، حين بدأ يدرك أن أباه الغني كان أكثر منطقية من أبيه الفقير. إذ أنه تعلم من أبيه الغني أن لا يقنع ويقول "لا أستطيع الحصول على هذا الشيء“ وإنما أصبح يفكر بعقلية " كيف يمكنني الحصول على ذلك الشيء؟"
وأضاف المؤلف أنه في حين كان أبوه الفقير يحمل شهادة الدكتوراه ويستثمر جل وقته و جهده في التعليم إلا أنه لم تكن لديه أي معرفة بالإستثمار في المشاريع، بينما كان أبوه الغني موهوبا جدا في لعبة الإستثمار والنجاح في المشاريع مع أنه لم يكن يملك شهادة عليا.
وقد تجلى موقف أبيه الغني في قوله بأن "الفقر هو أصل كل خطيئة" بينما آمن أبوه الفقير بأن "حب المال هو أساس كل خطيئة".
