Note: The internal phone storage must have sufficient space for a copy of the directory LOST.DIR on the external SD Card.

Lost Data? Suddenly, LOST.DIR contains lots of files? It had been empty all the time! These files have no extensions, and numbers as names? And there's no program which opens them?

This demo version shows how many files (and which file types) in LOST.DIR can be restored. Find the full version here: http://play.google.com/store/search?q=pub:hdop

Please note: "Restore" means to append extensions, according to the file type. The original file names cannot be restored!

How it works? Faulty file operations cause Android to try its best to save what can be saved: Blocks of data, which can no longer be assigned to the filesystem structure are not deleted, but saved in LOST.DIR, with numbers as file names.

IF YOU'RE LUCKY, these are complete (or truncated) files, whose types can be identified using the "magic number" contained in the first few bytes. After renaming an identified file - with the appropriate extension - it can be opened with the associated program.

So, these files can - at least partially - be restored. A restored file may even happen to be larger than the original file was, because the "files" in LOST.DIR always contain complete sectors. But most programs ignore "garbage" after end of file. Anyway, if no other backup is available, this is better than nothing...

This app automates the procedure described above. All files without extension are analyzed and - if identified - renamed accordingly.

5 ★I have both internal and external SD storage on my Galaxy Note. This program shows only the LOST.DIR on the external SD storage at first. The developer advised me to tap into the white field. A file browser appears. Then tap on the "../" entry to go up one directory. Repeat until sdcard0/ appears. Then drill down from there to find the internal LOST.DIR. Then it found 510 files. Thanks to Hans-Deiter for the quick support. I bought the paid program.

1 ★Root your phone and you'll never need something like this. You lose files because Google trolls unrooted phones. This app (and it's paid sister) won't get the files you need to recover. "File is corrupted" is their mantra. Don't waste your time here!

5 ★Human pls listen carefully, this demo does nothing but actually it's full version really work, it rename all those file without extension inside my lost.dir folder (ps. I accidentally plugged out sdcard while copying stuff resulting data loss) . Still giving this demo 5★ to support developers. Give full version a try if you face this sort of problem.
