Лес — комедия в пяти действиях русского драматурга Александра Островского 1870 года. Действие происходит в поместье помещицы Гурмыжской, которая по своей воле вершит судьбы зависящих от нее людей. Она продает принадлежащий ей лес потому, что ей нужны деньги — для бедных — по ее собственным словам. Однако довольно быстро становится ясно, что деньги для Гурмыжской — прежде всего возможность купить себе молодого возлюбленного. Ради этого она мучает и терзает бедную племянницу Аксюшу, прекрасно понимающую, что ей не достанется ни копейки из огромного наследства, но все равно не осмеливающуюся бунтовать против богатой родственницы, так как идти ей некуда. Единственным по-настоящему сильным и благородным человеком в пьесе оказывается странствующий актер Несчастливцев, который, не задумываясь, отдает полученные им от Гурмыжской деньги на приданое Аксюше и, отказавшись от богатства, вновь пускается в бесконечные странствия по России.
