Regatta Live Wallpaper is a simulation of a sailing regatta. Boats are sailing between two buoys, at the top and bottom of the screen.Wind direction is mainly from the top, but can be influenced by tilting the phone. The actual simulation is how the boats do anticipate and react to the windshifts as obtained by tilting the phone.
A sailboat cannot directly sail against the wind. Instead it boats sail close-hauled, in the Regatta Live Wallpaper 45 degrees from the wind direction. By tacking one can reach the goal position.
Of course sailing at a 45 degree angle is not as fast as going directly to the goal position. A boat sailing smaller angles will go faster to the goal position, and thus win the regatta.
In the simulation all boats have the same speed, and all sail at 45 degree angles to the wind. The green boat will keep to the right side, the red boat to the left side while the grey boat will keep the middle. Of special interest is the blue boat: she will always tack when the wind turns between left and right. This leads to a hard to beat sailing pattern!
Care had been taken to reduce power usage of Regatta Live Wallpaper. Main background is black, leading very low power use of the screen of many phones. In addtion care has been taken not to use any power when Regatta Live Wallpaper is not visible.
