we think it’s amazing. It smells great and it has so many benefits for hair, skin, and health. I’ve been using it straight as a face moisturizer for the past few weeks, but I’ve also been breaking out a little the past few weeks. Well, we read a few days ago that coconut oil can actually be comedogenic, despite being antibacterial. So, we decided to try making a new moisturizer to replace coconut oil.You will need:
Aloe Vera Gel: non-greasy, lightweight moisturizer, anti-inflammatory, nutrient rich
Almond Oil: deep moisturizer, soothes irritation, reduces dark circles
Jojoba Oil: anti-bacterial, natural antiseptic, non-greasy oil moisturizer
Beeswax: locks in moisture, protects skin against damaging elements, antioxidant, anti-bacterial, and anti-inflammatory
Essential oil of your choice: benefits depend on the oil you choose (I used lemon oil which is anti-bacterial and antiseptic, and orange oil which is soothing for the skin. Be careful choosing an oil because some may not work well with your skin type or may have other effects like increased photosensitivity)
A makeshift or real double boiler (I use the makeshift version- boiling water in a larger pot with a smaller pot on top, here is a universal double boiler)
A hand mixer (I like to use one with a whisk attachment, I find it works better)
A large bowl
Ingredients
1/3 cup aloe vera gel*
2 tablespoons sweet almond oil
2 tablespoons jojoba oil
1 tablespoon beeswax
10 drops of your favorite essential oils
2 drops vitam e oil- optional
Instructions
Heat the almond oil, jojoba oil, and beeswax in the double boiler until melted and well combined (it takes about 2-5 minutes for me)
Pour the oil mix into a bowl large enough to use a hand mixer in without splashing
Walk away and let the mixture cool to room temperature- for at least an hour, probably more.
Mix the essential oils into the aloe vera gel
Once the mixture is room temperature, start slowly adding the aloe vera gel as you use the hand mixer to whip up the moisturizer. You may not need all of the aloe so add it gradually.
Continue to whip until it reaches your desired consistency (I used my hand mixer for about 10 minutes)
Put in a container with a tight lid and enjoy!
