How to test

1.) Unlock "Developer options"
1.a. Go to the settings menu, and scroll down to "About phone." Tap it.
1.b. Scroll down to the bottom again, where you see "Build number."
1.c. Tap it seven (7) times. After the third tap, you'll see a playful dialogue that says you're four taps away from being a developer. Keep on tapping, and you've unlocked the developer settings.

2.) Activate touch visualisation
2.a. Go into the in 1.) unlocked "Developer options" menu.

3.a. Look for fake touches

Questions & Answers

Q: What is an APK File?

A: Just like Windows (PC) systems use an .exe file for installing software, Android does the same. An APK file is the file format used for installing software on the Android operating system.

Q: If I install an APK from this website, will I be able to update the app from the Play Store?

A: Yes, absolutely. The Play Store installs APKs it downloads from Google's servers, and sideloading from a site like ApkClean.net goes through a very similar process, except you're the one performing the downloading and initiating the installation (sideloading).
As soon as the Play Store finds a version of the app newer than the one you've sideloaded, it will commence an update.

Q: Why ApkClean.net can guarantee APK 100% safe?

A: Whenever someone wants to download an APK file from ApkClean.net, we'll check the corresponding APK file on Google Play and allow user download it directly (of course, we'll cache it on our server). If the APK file does not exist on Google Play, we'll search it in our cache.

Q: What are Android App permissions?

A: Apps require access to certain systems within your device. When you install an application, you are notified of all of the permissions required to run that application.

5 ★Funny Nexus 7 bug. I suppose the pattern generates interference noise. Note to the author: add a "set pattern as wallpaper" option to silence (forever) those who say that the app is fake ;)
4 ★Please make this app open source. It will be the best way to demonstrate once and for all that it's not fake. I don't think it is, since I'm seeing touches interact with things like the notification bar and home button, but I'd like to be sure. There is definitely something not right with my touchscreen, and an open source version would mean we could use this as conclusive proof of problems.
5 ★...and searched Google to see what was up and found your xda post and then this app (then noticed it was all your stuff, haha). Great to see it's the common issue. My device freaks out on some of the tests here and not others (and on some doesn't freak out until the screen is touched). Very interesting! I hope Google and Asus figure this out soon. Thanks for making this app.
5 ★Just got a Nexus 7 with a wonky touchscreen. Found this app and confirmed the defect. Displaying the first pattern I got fantom touches all over the screen, then the poor machine froze for a few seconds and then the app crashed. To test the app I tried it on my trusted Note 8 - and it worked perfectly, all patterns and touch smooth as butter.
5 ★Just read the corresponding thread on xda. Someone even created a webpage demonstrating the problem. An I'm quite sure, that a website is not able to create fake touches on any device so it seems that really the checkboard pattern triggers them.
5 ★And the Nexus 7 screen problems are real too. I don't think there's a perfect unit in existence, even. So whatever, it's a cheap tablet, don't worry your pretty head too much about it.
4 ★Is this a HW or SW bug? Does 4.4 fix this screen problem? Anyone went/ sent the N7 to Asus repair center to get this bug fixed successfully?
5 ★I hope this is something that can be fixed and not a hardware problem. I took a screenshot of image 1 to test outside of the app, and indeed there are many crazy touches without the app running when the image is viewed at native resolution.
5 ★If you decompile the apk and look inside. There is no coding to check device or fake any touch responses. Please stop listening to these dumb people who think they know everything and are saying the app is fake. Take it from a developer who does this stuff for a living. This is a legitimate app and this developer did a good job showing the rendering problems of the nexus 7. Stop dissing this amazing app and disregard all of the other reviews saying it's fake. Thanks!
5 ★So do you know any fix? (mine goes crazy on patterns 1 to 3)
1 ★The application seems to be creating fake software initiated touch responses in some patterns to make the user think their device touch screen has issues and that the application works. The same pattern when tried with the application closed does not cause any issues. Some of them can easily be recreated e.g. Pattern 19. Do not rely on this application to test your device.
5 ★To replicate outside the app, 1.take a screenshot of your desired pattern. 2. Install Immersive mode and make the top and bottom bars dissapear. 3. Open photos and navigate to the photo. Tap and move cursor around. Viola!!
