Duo Edu het sy ontstaan gehad deurdat ‘n behoefte geïdentifiseer is vanuit die praktyk van Dr Lorraine du Toit (Opvoedkundige Sielkundige): Hoërskoolleerders met spesifieke leerbehoeftes het dit uitdagend gevind om hulself binne die hoofstroom klaskamer te handhaaf.Die skool het sy ontstaan gehad in 2001 met 5 leerders, een onderwyseres (Mev Hettie Conning) en ‘n skoolhoof as deel van die Doktorale studie van die skoolhoof, Dr Lorraine du Toit! Daar is aanvanklik ingeskakel by die kurrikulum van Breinlyn, en later as deeltydse graad 12 leerders by die Departement van Onderwys geregistreer. Dus kon die leerders hul Graad 12 oor 2 jaar skryf. Die ongelooflike akkommoderende en hulpverlenende ingesteldheid van Hoërskool Garsfontein, met Mnr Dirk van Zyl aan die hoof, het dit moontlik gemaak om Duo Edu se eerste matriekeksamens af te lê. Hoërskool Garsfontein het ons geakkommodeer vir ‘n hele paar eksamensittings! Ons eerste leerders het dus in 2004 vir Duo Edu se eerste 100% slaagsyfer gesorg! William Nicolstraat 565 was ook van daardie jaar af die permanente tuiste van Duo Edu.
Visie:
Ons streef daarna om elke leerder die voorreg te gun om binne ‘n leeromgewing te funksioneer wat sal lei tot die optimalisering van sy of haar potensiaal.
Missie:
Duo Edu is verbind daartoe om:
• Ondersteunende Onderwys aan leerders (Hoërskool) wat in een of meer leerareas ondersteuning nodig het te bied;
• daarna te streef om elke leerder (adolessent) se uniekheid en bepaalde moontlikhede optimaal te ontwikkel;
• te poog om die leerder se bestaande sterkpunte ten volle te benut om sy / haar leerbehoeftes deur aanpassing in die onderrigmetodiek en hulpmiddels te omseil, om sodoende maksimale skolastiese funksionering te bewerkstellig;
• die geestelike groei van elke leerder optimaal te ontwikkel;
• leierseienskappe van leerders te bevorder, en hulle sodoende te bemagtig vir die posisies wat hul na hul skoolloopbaan beklee;
