Description
The GCC Club Cup is the new edition of the GCC Champions League which comprises of the GCC clubs from UAE, Bahrain, Oman, Qatar, Kuwait and Saudi Arabia.The tournament includes representatives from each of the participating countries chosen by the local football associations based on their ranking in the local league and cup.
The tournament in its current format aims to improve football for the GCC clubs as teams are distributed to four groups of three teams each.
Tournament format
The GCC Club Cup is staged on two phases as the group stage if the first phase while the knockout stage is the second phase. The tournament starts on 03 February 2015 while it is concluded with the final match on 27 May 2015.
Group stage
This phase is staged from 03 February 2015 until 08 April 2015 and it includes 12 teams divided on four groups of three teams each. The teams compete together as the winner of each group advances to the knockout stage.
Group A: Al Suwaiq (OMN) - Al Rayan (QAT) - Al Taawon (KSA)
Group B: Al Arabi (QAT) - Al Seeb (OMN) - Al Shabab (UAE)
Group C: Al Manama (BAH) - Kazma (KUW) - Al Nasr (UAE)
Group D: Al Riffaa Al Sharqy (BAH) - Al Faisaly (KSA) - Al Jahraa (KUW)
The teams play according to a league format and in case two or more teams are equal in the top position, the following criteria is used to determine the winners:
- Goal difference
- Number of goals scored
- Number of points obtained in matches between tied teams
- Draw of lots
