孟子是中國儒家典籍中的一部，記錄了戰國時期思想家孟子的治國思想和政治策略，是孟子和他的弟子記錄並整理而成的。孟子在儒家典籍中佔有很重要的地位，為四書之一。
孟子（公元前372年－公元前289年）姬姓，孟氏，名軻，鄒國（今山東省鄒城市）人，戰國時期儒家代表人物。其字號在漢代以前的古書沒有記載，但曹魏、晉代之後卻傳出子車、子居、子輿、子展等不同的字號，字號可能是後人的附會而未必可信。
生卒年月因史傳未記載而有許多的說法，其中又以《孟子世家譜》上所記載之生於周烈王四年（前372年），卒於周赧王二十六年（前289年）較為多數學者所採用。
