Rain coming? Check Raindar! Animated Doppler radar on Google Maps for the US. Now also on Google TV and tablet!Going somewhere and you're not sure if you need to bring your umbrella? Want to check if there's going to be fresh powder snow on the slopes in Tahoe tomorrow? Check Raindar! Raindar displays animated Doppler radar images on your Google Map. When you start Raindar it automatically focuses on your location so you can quickly see if there is precipitation coming your way. When pressing the search button on your phone you can now also search for locations within the US!
Raindar works out of the box but has many configuration options (see the recent changes page).
Color:
- green/yellow/red is rain
- blue/white is snow
Raindar can now also display storm tracks! It displays different icons for each of the 4 types of storms:
- Yellow circle: thunderstorm
- Yellow square: Hail Storm
- Yellow diamond: Rotating Thunderstorm (Mesocyclone)
- Magenta triangle: Tornado Vortex Signature (pretty heavy!)
When clicking on one of those icons a dialog will appear with detailed information.
The storm tracks also display the direction and speed of the storm in the form of an arc. The arc is split in 3 parts: 20, 40 and 60 minutes until the storm reaches that area.
On Google TV:
- Use the D-pad for navigate up/down/left/right
- Use the media forward/back or next/previous buttons to zoom in and out

How to install Raindar APK on Android phone or tablet?
Download Raindar APK file from ApkClean, then follow these steps:
Update Phone Settings
- Go to your phone Settings page
- Tap Security or Applications (varies with device)
- Check the Unknown Sources box
- Confirm with OK
Go to Downloads
- Open Downloads on your device by going to My Files or Files
- Tap the APK file you downloaded (com.ghvandoorn.Raindar-v2.5-ApkClean.apk)
- Tap Install when prompted, the APK file you downloaded will be installed on your device.

Q: What is an APK File?
A: Just like Windows (PC) systems use an .exe file for installing software, Android does the same. An APK file is the file format used for installing software on the Android operating system.

4 ★I tell all my friends at work.. I say.. its going to rain hard in 10 minutes.. and last for 20 minutes and the sun will come back.. then it happens all thanks to this app. Now I subtract one star because I want to see cloud cover/sattelite as well
3 ★Radar is spot on for rain but needs to update every 5 minutes. Storms can move 10-15 miles in 15 minutes and go from just rain to dangerous in the same time frame. No wind from regional sources, no lightning, no satellite images. Fix all that and you have a 5 star app.
3 ★Use to work great until a few days ago and now all of a sudden it quit showing rain anywhere even though we had rain early this morning. It still loads but shows no rain or any doppler images. Need a fix...
2 ★I've used this app for ~3 years. I've told lots of people to use it and most that I know of do. Taking the compass away made your app useless. Wasted space on our devices since a web page shows just as much just as easy.
5 ★Well...ultimately only one use, to see if it will rain, but many different occasions to use it! Should I start or stop mowing? Do I leave the beach? Can I load a couch in the back of my truck and it not get wet by the time I get it to the next location? Raindar will answer all of these questions and more! With Raindar all things are possible! Well all things relating to rain are possible anyway....
5 ★Dictates how we structure the day: Need to run irrigation or will Mother Nature give the plants a good soaking? Plant nursery, gardening projects, any outdoor activity with minimal shelter from rain can depend on this app.
3 ★What has happened to this app? Used to be a wonderful, fast loading and accurate app for real time increase your risk radar imagery. Now it's raining outside where I live and according to the app there is no rain anywhere in the continental United States! What have you done to this app???
5 ★I just spent about an hour downloading each and every "radar" map on the play store. Save yourself sometime and aggravation. Trust me when I tell you that this one is BY FAR... the BEST weather radar out there! Track storms, has the storms paths, you can even get very detailed information about each and every storm headed your way or just out of curiosity. All you need right here. No for cast, no blowing smoke up your rear-end. Just a GREAT RADAR, that's VERY Accurate. Great job developer! Absolutely Great!
5 ★This is so intuitively useful and convenient. After getting used to this app, I looked for something similar online, and was surprised to find that existing public radar resources tend to be much more complicated.
1 ★I have used this app for years and I opened it up today cause it looked like it was going to storm. Low and behold there is no storms showing up anywhere in the nation, but it's storming here and I still see nothing. Please fix. I brag about this app to everyone and I can't encourage people to get it if I can't even use it.
5 ★No matter what weather forecast app I use, I always have this app installed alongside it due to the speed at which I can get the radar image. The only downside is the use of old Google Maps APIs, so zooming and panning is a bit clunky. Otherwise, it works and looks great, even on Lollipop!
5 ★All of the issues mentioned below have been fixed with the update. Compass in upper left covers time stamp and no way to remove compass. Time stamp WAY too small. When panning map, radar no longer refreshes and doesn't accurately move with map.
