豐原醫院位於台中市豐原區，基於「每一縣市設立一所省立醫院」的政策下，於72年4月30日成立，隸屬於台灣省政府衛生處，醫院初期規劃為100床。初期規劃建院基本路線為「主動發掘民眾的需求，結合社區資源，提供綜合性、持續性、社區醫療保健服務」，以企業化系統管理之理念與原則經營管理推展 院務，以「結合地區資源，聯繫各醫療機構，建立地區醫療網，成為提供診療、預防、保健、研究教學，復健等之地區醫療中心」為建院總目標。 醫療服務之地區為豐原區、石岡區、東勢區、新社區、和平區、后里區、神岡區、潭子區、大雅區、外埔區及苗栗縣之卓蘭鎮、三義鄉…等豐原次區域生活圈之十二鄉鎮，地區內人口為六十萬餘人。因應政府精省政策，88年7月1日起由原隸屬於「台灣省政府衛生處」改隸屬於「行政院衛生署」，醫院名稱亦由「台灣省立豐原醫院」改為 「行政院衛生署豐原醫院」。97年獲新制醫院評鑑特優及教學醫院評鑑合格。102年7月23日，配合行政院組織改造成立「衛生福利部」，醫院名稱由「行政院衛生署豐原醫院」改為「衛生福利部豐原醫院」。目前總病床數724床，員工人數約1,200人，為區域教學醫院。衛生福利部豐原醫院並以「成為大台中民眾最信賴的醫療暨健康照護中心」為醫院願景，以照護民眾健康、配合政策、關懷弱勢為醫院使命，關懷、誠信、創新為核心價值。為建立安全、落實以病人為中心、適時效率、公正優質醫療保健服務機制，提供符合社區民眾健康需求之服務，發展醫院特色專長及追求卓越，提昇醫療服務水準，成為急症、重症醫學訓練、緊急醫療網救助中心，擔任「傳染病防治醫療網應變醫院」、「人類免疫缺乏病毒指定醫事機構」及「美國在台協會移民體檢合約醫院」，並積極拓展「擴大照護能量、提升急重症照護品質、強化社區連結、精實作業流程」的策略主題，成為守護社區民眾健康的好厝邊。
